Advertising on blogs and RSS are looking good, according to a research on Forrester saying “… a total US online advertising and marketing spending will reach $14.7 bln in 2005, a 23% increase over 2004.” (Source: ZDNet )
So, if you’re running blogs (especially with RSS Feeds), then you might want to be in a position where your blogs and RSS would be attractive to these advertisers that are interested to become sponsors. Even if you think you can’t play with the “big boys” - just imagine getting even a small cut from the $14.7 billion for 2005. That will already be great, don’t you think?
Of course, not all blogs would be able to get sponsorships. And, it must be said, not everyone would want them anyway. But, if you’re thinking of becoming a “professional blogger” (even just in your spare time) and finding sponsors for your blog/s - then you might want to take these things in to consideration:
1) Make sure that your blogs run RSS feeds! (See RSS Feeds on AboutWeblogs.com)
2) Be a niche-specific blogger. Having a definite topic will help you target a specific market - hence, making your blog attractive to sponsors.
3) Make sure that your numbers look good. Learn as much as you can about promotions and SEO so you can get your traffic up. If you’re not in to such things, then perhaps you might want to blog for someone else who can help to take care of these matters for you. (See Solo Blogger vs Network Blogger Quiz)
Of course, there are more things to think about. And, I hope to be able to share more tips with you along the way.
