During the last few days, my family and I have been busy in the garden. Well, mostly my family— but I’ve contributed too. 
However, it’s winter here Down Under, so there are cases where it’s difficult to see if any of the plants will actually grow.
Like the crab apple tree that’s meant to go in our modest backyard. At the moment, it looks more like a 1.5-metre twig with a couple of sticks growing from it. But, in full bloom, it’s meant to look something like this.
Tough to imagine.
But, it’s pretty much the same scenario with nearly anything in life, including making money online: It’s hard to see that whatever it is that we’re planting will grow and bloom one day.
A few days ago, Darren Rowse, a professional blogger, wrote about blog focus. In the said blog entry, he wrote about his reasons for holding/hoarding blogs that may not show immediate profit. An idea that got stuck in my head is this:
It takes time for blogs to take off. [snip] The first 6 to 12 months can show few signs of growth (particularly if youÂ’re using a completely new domain) and then out of the blue can come successÂ… sometimes. ItÂ’s a hit and miss game.
This can apply not just to blogs — but many other areas of business and life. I guess, you can say that the first half a year to a year of your quest for online money per project can be considered the “winter season” – everything may look just a little bit twiggy and dead, like our brand new tree. However, if planted correctly, fertilised, pruned, weeded, watered – and given the right time and season… it just might grow, blossom, and bear fruit.
If not, well… I suppose there are only two options: Quit or Go Back to Square One. It’s up to you which way you’d like to go.
