When Teaching Online Pays
Yes, this is another paycheck check-in. Today’s online dollars in the mail came from my ongoing teaching stint at UniversalClass.com. This isn’t my first cheque from them, so I’m pretty confident that it’s going to clear.
What’s new in this particular paycheck, though, is that apart from my student tuition fee commissions, I also received some cash just because some of my students bought certificates. I find this very rewarding, not just for the extra cash, but for the satisfaction of knowing that some of my students enjoyed the class/es well enough to want to remember the course/s with class certificates.
Anyway, right now, I only have two classes on UniversalClass.com - both on creative writing. The great thing about my current set-up with them is that I didn’t need to prepare these courses from scratch. I’ve prepared a few online classes about 5 years ago, when I first started teaching online. And, I built from these early efforts.
For the first year of my online teaching career, I only offered free classes. After all, I was young and inexperienced online. Then, I learned all about virtual learning environments and expanded my course materials. Then, I started offering online courses through my web sites for a fee. It was great because I get to keep 100% of the profits. But, I found the process a bit taxing. So, I retired my courses for a while.
Last year, I found out about UniversalClass.com. I explored it as an option and gave it a go. So far, I’m quite happy with it. The staff are responsive and I like the fact that the classes get reviewed accordingly.
In future posts, I hope to share with you more tips on how to profit from online teaching. Creating and teaching your own class online isn’t as difficult as you might think!
