Multiple Domain Hosting Suggestions, Anyone?

by Shai Coggins on July 5th, 2006

Right now, I’m using SiteOCity.com as my multiple domain hosting service. It was formerly known as GeekHosting.com. As Geek Hosting, they really sucked big time. Things started to improve a bit when it became SiteOCity. However, I encountered a lot of down times to begin with. Then, things began to improve again. And, it stayed good. For the most part.

You see, every couple of months or so, I kept encountering issues. Sometimes, it took days to get my sites back up.

This is not good for business, of course. And, tech support isn’t always helpful.

So, while they’re generally good, I’m wondering if there’s a better host out there. I’d like to hear some suggestions, if you have any.

The things I’m looking for include:

1) Ability to host multiple domains under one account (minimum of 20 domains; unlimited domains preferable). With unlimited parked domains and subdomains.

2) Disk space of at least 1000 MB and data transfer of at least 40 GB.

3) 200+ Email accounts, unlimited forwarding and autoresponders.

4) PHP, MySQL (minimum of 60 databases), CGI, Perl, FTP and CPANEL access.

5) Daily back-up of data.

6) Access to raw log files, daily statistics.

7) If possible, runs the Fantastico script.

… among others.

And, of course, a DECENT tech support system.

Oh, and yes, one that won’t break my bank account would be good too. ;-)

Thoughts and suggestions, anyone?

I’ve been very happy with Vervehosting. Their customer service when you need it is great and quick. I’ve got unlimited domains (I think) and features that match what you’ve got. I’m paying $25/mnth. How does that compare to what you’ve been used to? If you’re interested, let me know, maybe there’s a referral bonus for me (that would be greatly appreciated!).

We have hosted with XtraOrbit.com for several years now and the tech support is the absolute best. Daily back ups have saved us a few times and customer service is ’round the clock. We could not be happier with over 20 webs currently up and running. Highly recommended and reasonable prices. http://www.xtraorbit.com

I always have an eye out for a better, cheaper host and I’ve done my share of research. Despite the problems I’ve encountered at 1and1, they have really taken note from all the negative customer feedback and improved their services. Currently hosting starts at like 1.50 per month on a shared hosting plan but for a dollar more you get like 100gb data storage and 1000GB transfer a month. It doesn’t say anything about multiple domains but I have more then one hosted with them and I’m pretty sure that they don’t limit you to the amount of domains you choose to host with them. The customer service was horrible at first but they have really worked hard on improving it. If you are looking for the best host for your buck then I would have to suggest 1and1 as a good host. I never really have downtime and the service is excellent other then their support. Recently webdesignfromscratch.com did a report on the best hosting and 1and1.com came out #2. You may want to consider getting a dedicated server for multiple domains so you can be sure your sites will be performing at their best but if you don’t really have the money to spend on that just go with 1and1 and I’m sure they will have everything you need from a host and more. Also webhostjury.com is a good place to look for hosting because they aren’t like the typical host review site that is trying to make affiliate sales. The reviews are based on user experiences so they are honest and provide good documentation on web hosting services. Good Luck
