BitPass: Micropayment System

BitPassI’ve been a keen supporter of the micropayment system even when some people questioned their use. I’ve always liked the idea of giving people the ability to become online merchants without huge capitals. Sometime last year, studies showed that after some tweaking and twisting, micropayment systems are finding their place online.

In the last 5+ years, I’ve been experimenting with various micropayment systems. It was complicated to begin with, so the thought of selling cheap things online – like downloads, files, etc. – seemed way too complicated without proper (read: expensive) merchant tools. But lately, more services are becoming available to the smallest of businesses. Or, even hobbyists who just want to earn some extra cash.

One of the micropayment systems that I’ve recently decided to try is BitPass. I’ve heard about BitPass over a year ago, but I never had the chance to give it a whirl until a few days ago.

It was great to see various levels of merchant accounts available: BitPass Studios, BitPass Professional and BitPass Enterprise.

BitPass Studios – This is perfect for anyone who wants a straightforward way of selling digital content. Just sign-up for a merchant account, upload a product you wish to sell, set your price, promote your product, then start selling. Easy peasy.

BitPass Professional – This is great for merchants who want a bit more variety and control with their digital content offerings. It gives sellers the ability to sell website access, streams, premium content, subscriptions, etc. However, one needs to have the ability (or know someone who can do it for them) to configure and install scripts from a server. It can get tricky if one’s not techy enough.

BitPass Enterprise – This is a solution/service offered by BitPass to larger companies and big time merchants.

In my case, I decided to try BitPass Professional right now. I might give BitPass Studios a go too one of these days. In any case, I’ll keep you updated with my experiments on BitPass.
