Hsien Hsien Lei of Cottontimer pointed me to a web money-making venture recently. She writes at ChaCha.com: Human Guided Searches:
Started by Scott Jones, the inventor of voicemail, ChaCha provides both traditional search and a guided search depending on your choice. It’s like IM with a purpose.
Hsien also quotes this from an InformationWeek article about ChaCha.com:
ChaCha plans to pay its guides by rank, based on the number of hours spent answering queries (time spent idle isn’t paid). Yet it’s not a professional salary. The ChaCha Underground has four ranks: apprentice (not paid until 10 queries have been successfully answered); pro ($5/hour); master ($5/hour); and elite (the top 20% of guides who’ll earn $10/hour). Additionally, guides who sponsor others as guides earn 10% of what their sponsored network earns.

Cha Cha has clearly stated, trusted and reliable people whom you KNOW can be invited to be part of your network. I am disappointed in these guides here offering up invites to anyone off the street. I even had a questionaire they had to pass in order to earn this invite.

On average I make about $12 per hour using a simple yet effective system of toolbars, tabs, ect. We have had this discussion before. You just can’t make a consistent $12 an hour being a guide. Why do people keep thinking you can make $12 an hour? $12 an hour isn’t even given as an option on the $4-$10 scale that ChaCha posts as your income possibilities, but you are gonna push it to $12. You answer all your questions in 60 seconds or less, and consistently get back to back questions? Just reading the question, getting the answer page to load, validating, and sending takes longer than 60 seconds. You must be one of those ones that just sends a crap answer using the ChaCha page as a source. I wonder what your answers and source sites look like. What a joke!

Guide Referral Program

ChaCha allows any Guide to refer up to 20 new applicants. A referred applicant needs to place your email address (which is saved into the ChaCha system) in the required field during the sign-up process. If this field is left blank or does not match the exact email address you use in our system, it is considered null and will be unable to be changed at any point in the future. If you are referred by another Guide or are referring a new Guide, please be sure that this field is appropriately completed.
The applicants you refer who pass the initial registration testing and become Guides will become part of your Network.

Hey guys! i REALLY REALLY wanna be a ChaCha guide! I am a stay-at-home mom of a 5 month old baby and i spend ALOT of time on the computer, i would be perfect for the job! I have made 2 attempts to register with ChaCha, but something, evidently is wrong with the system, because everytime i try to take the first part of the assesment test, when i get to Page 5 (the 5th page) and i click next, it just keeps reloading the same page with my answers and then it takes me to a screen saying “ERROR” then when i try to go back it wont let me. sooo i try to log in and try again and it says “account suspended” I’m not sure what im doing wrong because i’m confident my answers are right, i studied the information, and even took notes. PLEASE HELP!

You don’t need an invite, DO NOT NEED AN INVITE!!! Just go to ChaCha.com and click on Become a Guide. People just say they have invites so you can be part of their team so they can make money for the searches you do. You can only have 20 teammates, that is why people say they have “20 invites”. Just apply!

Wow what a lie. You don’t have to put a referring email. It doesn’t benefit anyone but the existing guide if someone puts them as a reference. Then the guide can get money off their teams searches. You’re a putz! I ought to report you for false information on ChaCha. Greedy! Why not just tell the truth instead of making people think they have to put a reference or that it will get them hired easier with a reference!!?!

Sooo, you don’t NEED an invite. What is the big deal. If someone wants to sign up under someones elses name that is their business. Being someones referral does NOT TAKE money from what you make. If you do 5 searches at .20cents a search. You get $1. Your team member makes of course gets commission. But is is a mere .02cents. If you want to become a guide help someone out and sign up on there team. Because once you become one you will more than likely at some point want to refer someone yourself. You don’t HAVE to. But it is an option. Geezz!

Hey everyone.
I’m at the point where I need to download the ChaCha toolbar. It won’t download!!! I am at my wits end here. I can’t move forward to do the test. Can’t find anyone to contact to help me with this. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do now?
You need to go to the knowledgebase which will prepare your computer to allow for downloads. Go to prepare your computer and then follow the instructions to allow add-ons. This will fix your problem. Happy ChaCha-ing! Even though we all just found out they are paying for performance rather than .20 for each text. (.10 for those that don’t search 300 a week and have a high accuracy rating).
Did you download Mozilla? That is necessary also then log in using Mozilla Firefox.
i can’t get past the w9 form on guide registration because it says the ssn i entered already exists! what do i do?
I got halfway through my test and then was locked out- now when I log in it says my account has been suspended?

Is this something you’re expected to do full time?
No, you don’t have to do it full time, however you need to answer 200 questions a week at 95% accuracy to get paid .20 cents/question. If you do less than that, you get .10 cents/ question the following week. It could take you several hours a day.

Hi I failed the first test because I got disconnected and so they sent me another invite for another position.When i went to log in it said my account was suspended. I don’t understand why. Any help as in what to do next? The email said to go to a certain page and email them but I can’t get that page to come up because it won’t let me log in.

How do the guides get their money when paid?
If you apply for ChaCha when under 18 and are accepted, are there ways for them to find out and get you in trouble with the law or something?
Guides get their money directly deposited into their checking account. For people who do not have a checking account they offer an account through ChaCha.
I do not believe that there is ANY way to join ChaCha being under the age of 18. They do ask for your birthday and social security number its just like a regular job. You do have to fill out forms for IRS.

Hey, I started working for ChaCha. Basically what you do is answer peoples questions and get paid 10 cents per question. It might not be much (3-7$/hour) but its legit. I’ve made $100 in 4 days so far not working too much. Check it out at http://becomeaguide.chacha.com/. You have to take two tests and then they let you know if your accepted. Make sure to add me as a referral to up your chances. Just type my email (KickAzzElite@yahoo.com) in the referral space.

I have had people tell me that they can’t get in by themselves but when they put my email address in they got hired right away. Hi. ChaCha is not currently taking apps, and You Data is cool, but you don’t need referral for that either, you can just go straight to the site! (No offense Natalie!)
No offense taken:) But why wouldn’t you give someone credit of a referral as long as it doesn’t cost you anything? If you sign up with or without a referral link, you still make the same but the referral makes a little off of it too ya know? lol
