Started by Scott Jones, the inventor of voicemail, ChaCha provides both traditional search and a guided search depending on your choice. It’s like IM with a purpose.
Hsien also quotes this from an InformationWeek article about ChaCha.com:
ChaCha plans to pay its guides by rank, based on the number of hours spent answering queries (time spent idle isn’t paid). Yet it’s not a professional salary. The ChaCha Underground has four ranks: apprentice (not paid until 10 queries have been successfully answered); pro ($5/hour); master ($5/hour); and elite (the top 20% of guides who’ll earn $10/hour). Additionally, guides who sponsor others as guides earn 10% of what their sponsored network earns.

Ok, so heres the deal. I’m currently a ChaCha Expiditer. You make .02 cents per question although it adds up pretty fast. I’m not going to say that it’s alot of money, but it helps if you need it. I currently make between 40-60 dollars a week, although I don’t sign on as often as I could. If you decide to apply, it really really helps if you have a referral email. I’m a ChaCha guide, and I just want to say that it’s completely legit. I’ve been doing it for a couple months now and I’ve made several hundred dollars. No joke. I set up the Pay Me Now option, where you set up a bank account through the First Internet Bank of Indiana. They send you a Visa debit card that can be used at any ATM/place that accepts Visa. It’s so convenient, you can get money whenever you want!

You are more likely to be accepted as a guide if you have a referral.
If you use me as your referral I will be able to contact you through the guide area of ChaCha, which means I will be able to help you get started and be there for you whenever you need help.
It isn’t a requirement, nor do they more likely accept you if you have a reference. Having a reference only benefits the reference, because they end up making some money you make. It never hurts to have one, though!
ChaCha is a great way to earn extra money; I have been doing this for about a year now and I have definitely enjoyed having extra spending cash. You can pick your hours and sometimes there are contests and bonuses to give you even more money.

I’m considering becoming a Chacha quide and was hoping you could
answer a few questions for me;
1- Do you receive the questions via text messages on a cell phone only and
do you have to reply via text messages on a cell phone or can you
communicate online?
2- Can one use google to research a topic or must you use a certain search
engine?

@mike, none of the questions are sent to you via text messages. Once you log into Chacha on your computer, you are put into the database and you start answering questions right there. You can use whatever search engine is best suited for you, so you can answer questions at a timely pace. There are many training videos and factsheets on the chacha website that will help you learn thr ins and outs of being a guide. I have been a guide since January, and I love the extra income! I just finished the Readiness Exam, I think that is what is called. The ten trial questions. I really really want to be a guide and I am a little nervous about being accepted. I answered them all in 5 minutes or less with okay answers. Do you think I am going to be accepted??
I can not make another account with a referal because its saying i already have an account even if i change the email address i failed for the main guide posistion will i get an email offering me to be one of the lower rankings??
I just recently passed the readiness test! It helped a lot to have a referral from a previous guide. I have heard of people who didn’t get accepted because they had no referrals. If you would like to put me down as your referral, my e-mail is usintcool@yahoo.com. Good luck!
