On ReviewMe
About a month or two back, I decided to sign up for ReviewMe using my personal site - ShaiCoggins.com - to begin with, out of curiousity. I also added my inactive site, AboutWeblogs.com.
Out of the two, I wasn’t surprised to see ShaiCoggins.com being ranked higher - with 3 stars and $100 per purchased review. Why? Because it has more “blog juice” (incoming links, etc.) — and, it’s an active blog.
Anyway, ReviewMe, if you haven’t heard of them yet, is a service where bloggers can sign up as one way to make some money online. When you sign up, your blog gets rated (to see your ranking and know how much they’d give offer per sponsored review - price range is anywhere between $40 to $500/per review). You then get listed in their marketplace. Advertisers can then search the marketplace where they can order reviews. Bloggers are allowed to accept or decline review orders. For more information, you can check out their FAQ.
If you do decide to accept a review offer, you’re given a deadline on writing the review on your specified blog. You then write the review, submit it, then wait for it to be approved. Once approved, you get 50% of the review price. So, in ShaiCoggins.com’s case, I would receive $50 per approved review (in its current rate).
There are plenty of discussions about these pay-per-post/review in the blogging community. Some people are totally against them, whilst others embrace their money-making possibilities. Some are somewhere in-between.
I guess, I’m one of those in-betweens. I don’t mind them so much and I believe they do have a place in blogs. And, I do like the idea that ReviewMe asks bloggers to post a disclosure in such sponsored/paid posts. The tricky bit here is making sure that your sponsored/paid posts don’t taint your blogging. Will your readers benefit from such posts? Does it matter? It will only matter if you end up losing readers because of them. So, it’s something only YOU can decide as a blogger.
Anyway, I’ll probably write more about this later on. In the meantime, feel free to share YOUR views about ReviewMe and such services.
BTW, this is NOT a sponsored/paid post! ;-)
