article marketing tipsArticle marketing is the use of articles in spreading the word about a website to benefit the promotion efforts of a company or an individual.

Here are the benefits of article marketing:

  • -  Helps distinguish you as an expert on your field
  • - Improves the search engine placement of a website through link building
  • -  Generates lead for a business or any action that the article marketer would like to achieve, usually preselling a product or service

Article marketing, if done right, aids in establishing your web presence. How? When you submit a quality article to an article directory, you expose your article to publishers who are looking for some free information to stuff their sites with. When readers of those sites get interested enough with the article’s content, chances are they will want to read more and a good article will lead those readers to the site of the article’s author.

So how do you carry out article marketing properly? Here are some important article marketing lessons:

1. Write a Viral Article that’s Relevant to Your Business

A viral article is a form of viral content, which is any produced content that can be easily propagated.  How-to’s or tips and lists relevant to your online business usually work wonders and can get viral in no time. The more useful, engaging, and unique your article is, the more viral it can become. In short, create a linkbaitlike article. The anatomy of a viral article includes an attention-grabbing title that delivers (meaning its content or body gives justice to the title); a body that is beefed up with nodworthy information and paragraphs with subheaders for better readability; closing statement that compels one to act; and a resource box with concise information about the author and his or her business. Now if you can’t write, don’t be afraid to hire a writer.

2. Use SEO in Writing Your Articles.

Same as optimizing your blog, finding long tail keywords makes it easy for your articles to find interested publishers that will download or use your articles. Put the keywords on the title, first and last paragraphA catchy headline that has the “what’s in it for me” factor for the readers is one way to optimize it for readers, too.

3. Optimize your Article’s Resource Box

Article marketing is like sending your resumes to potential employers. It can either win or lose you an interview, which can be likened to the chance of getting your site some eyeballs. If your article is your resume, make sure you provide the right contact details if ever anyone gets pulled by your article. The resource box is where you place info about your self as the business owner/author of the article and a few lines about your business and maybe its tagline. Hyperlinking your site is a wise move too since it will facilitate making readers visit the site.

4. Include a Note that will Prevent Not Getting Credits for Your Article

To make the most of your article marketing efforts, it pays to place a warning that you only allow your article to be republished or reprinted if the publisher retains the resource box.

5. Submit Your Article to as Many Article Directories as Possible

The idea is to get the word out about your business, right? So it’s just logical to get your articles to as many directories you can find. Some article marketers advise submitting to at least 100 article directories to get the most out article directory submission. However, if you don’t have the time to submit your article to the hundreds upon hundreds of these article havens,  use only those that are the most popular or those which are widely used such as the following article directories:

iSnare

EzineArticles

Don’t forget to do the submission regularly, say one or a couple of articles every week or so.

6. Avoid Duplicate Content Penalty

One rule that cautious article marketers follow is to never use the articles you submitted to article directories on your own site. This is to avoid search engine’s wrath towards duplicate content.
