BritePic and BriteFlic: Making Money with Photos and Videos

If you want to find ways to monetize your photos and videos, then you might be interested in AdBrite‘s latest products: BritePic and/or BriteFlic.

In a nutshell, to make money off BritePic and/or BriteFlic, you feed your photo and/or video in the system, you get a code to copy and paste to your blog or site, an advertisement is inserted via AdBrite’s system, a user clicks on the ad, and you get a commission.

BritePic: Making Money Online with Photos

BritePicIt’s not easy to make money off photos without going in to selling images, etc. So, I do think that the idea behind BritePic is quite clever. And, definitely has potential. However, having tried out BritePic, I saw 4 issues with this:

1) The images (and the blog/site itself) may end up loading too slowly, especially if you run too many of these BritePic-enabled photos on one page.

2) The ‘interactivity’ part of this (the mouseover title, ‘email this’, etc) isn’t really very attractive.

3) You still need to host your images elsewhere, as AdBrite doesn’t offer hosting for your images.

4) Ads do not always get served. And, when they do get served, they’re not always relevant.

At the moment, you also can’t see how many BritePic photos you’ve got activated. And, I can’t see a good way to track statistics. It also seems as though you can only activate BritePic on one site/blog at a time.

Anyway, here’s a sample photo that uses the BritePic code -

BriteFlic: Making Money Online with Videos

BriteFlicMaking money through online videos is still a very new idea. There aren’t many related services yet that deal with this avenue. But, it still has potential to grow.

Anyway, the ads aren’t served exactly the same way as BritePic. I believe ads are served as a post, mid or pre-roll (that is, after, in the middle of, or just before the video starts) And, as far as I know, there is a 70/30 split of ad revenue in BriteFlic (30% goes to AdBrite)

And, while I haven’t fully tested BriteFlic yet, I already noted a couple of issues with this particular product/service:

1) Only videos in flash format are accepted. So, if you don’t have any way to convert your video files in to .svf, then you can’t use BriteFlic.

2) Like in BritePic’s case, you must host your video files elsewhere, as AdBrite doesn’t host your videos for you. I’m not sure if there are free video hosting services out there that will work with this, so unless you have the capacity to host video files, then you’ll have to swallow the cost of hosting and serving the videos.

In any case, if you want to use either programme (BritePic and/or BriteFlic), you need to sign up for an account at AdBrite. Once you’re logged in to your account, you’ll find a tab for both of these programmes.
