Ideas, Making Money, and Generosity

Meet-up sessions are very interesting. You encounter all sorts of thoughts, meet all sorts of personalities, and get all sorts of feedback.

During the last few days, my head’s just buzzing with so many ideas. One of the things that struck me the most is something that I heard someone say about generating ideas and being generous with these ideas. I’m not exactly sure who said it, when and where… all I know is that the thought resonated in me.

Basically, this person said that every time he has an interesting idea for a business or a way to make money and such, he likes putting it out there for other people to use, discuss or ignore. When asked why he’d do such a thing, he said something like, “Well, I’m doing enough with my time. If I could do everything that comes to mind, I’d do it. But, I can only do so much. So, I figured, if I can’t do it, I might as well tell someone about it and maybe they can do it.”

To me, that sounded both great and silly at the same time. I mean, when you have a brilliant idea that you think might make a lot of money or something, the first tendency is to keep it – whether you end up using it or not. After all, what if it’s the next big thing, right?

But then, how many ideas do end up lost in to oblivion when these idea-makers hoard them to their grave? What if those ideas can make a difference in someone’s life… or maybe, even make a difference in a much broader sense?

So, I figured… I’d like to take that path. The path where I give as much as I can when it comes to helping other people find The Next Big Thing. And, if you’d like to take this path too, I’d welcome your contributions too.

I like this thought about sharing ideas because you aren’t going to be able to do everything that your mind can concieve. I have to say I think I do try to do just about every idea I come up with. My problem is that when I have creative moments, and I have lots of them, if I don’t write them down I forget. I have a couple of business ideas rolling around in my head. I would love to get one of them off the ground.

If I am going to give them away to others, I would like to know that whoever gets them will really do something with the idea I give. Anyway, very interesting post.

Tag! You’re it! I have tagged you over at interviewchatter.com. I look forward to hearing more about you Shai!

    Have a great night!

    Darlene,
I am exactly the same – “when I have creative moments, and I have lots of them”, only I don’t forget them, I ususally end up thinking about them for an unhealthy amount of time gradually knocking them of the list in my head one by one untill I’m left with the best idea which often contains elements of the others. My big idea is just going to get started next week…. (its internet related but not related to my blog)
