Disappearing Google Ads

Does anyone know if Firefox automatically blocks Google Ads from appearing in web browsers? Not sure if this is a universal thing or just a freaky Firefox for Mac situation or what. But, I just realised today that I no longer see Google Ads in any site/blog when I use Firefox as my browser (which is my default browser). I didn’t install any Add-ons or Plugins to block ads, other than the pop-up blocker. So, I was surprised by this.

Anyway, I still see ads on a Safari browser:

But, on a Firefox, the Google Ads just disappear:

Google Ads Disappearing - Firefox

I wonder what’s up with that? Do you know anything about this?

I can’t remember where I’ve read it from. But, yeah, I’m sure there’s this Firefox feature/plugin that blocks ads.

sounds like you’ve got the ad blocker plugin installed and on.

That would be my guess. The AdBlock extension.

Tanks, Alfa, Darren and Baz. Not sure how that happened though, if it’s a plugin. I don’t remember installing it. In fact, I checked my Extensions list and it’s not there either. How can I undo/uninstall a plugin I can’t see? Any ideas?

I had this problem too. There’s a plug-in out for Firefox that blocks Google ads.

If you didn’t install the firefox plugin, then it’s the window host file problem, try to locate the hosts file and delete those lines:

    127.0.0.1 adwords.google.com
    127.0.0.1 pagead.googlesyndication.com
    127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com
    127.0.0.1 adservices.google.com
    ….

this are the blocking code for displaying google adsense.

Opps, you are using mac, then the hosts files in mac is located in /etc/hosts

Wow Ken, I didn’t know you could do that. Nice way to block ads system wide.

    Thanks

If you didn’t install the AdBlock extension, then it’s probably unlikely to be that. The hosts file problem sounds far more likely than mere “gremlins”, however, I had the same problem, way back in 2004, when AdSense ads “mysteriously” disappeared for about a week. Neither of these was the culprit: Firefox was including incomplete code in the pages rendered, despite the fact that it was complete when when it was placed in them. How? I wish I knew. I had not done (installed / uninstalled) anything to cause it. Curiously, I did nothing to fix it either and, yet the ads came back all by themselves.

Strangely enough – without me doing anything to my Firefox or MacBook – the Adsense ads re-appeared.
