Domain Cash Parking

in Domains and Web Hosts, Ideas on Making Money Online

cash parking
In all my online money making years, I’ve never looked in to one popular way some webpreneurs make money: Domain Cash Parking.
What is it? Basically, you buy a domain name and choose a place to ‘park’ it where you can get paid through some kind of revenue sharing system.

This is good if you own several domain names that are not being used and/or ‘under construction’. Instead of leaving these domains on their own, you can park them with a domain parking service and you can earn money by doing so.

There are several services that offer domain cash parking. And, depending on the number of domains you have, you might want to look at different services. Some cash parking services are free and some charge a fee.

If you have less than 50 domains that you wish to park, one popular service is Sedo. It has a free and a paid (Pro) version. I’ve heard some good reports about Sedo, but haven’t really had a first hand experience.

Another popular service is called Parked. A couple of other options: plus1.net and iMonetize.

All these also handle more than 50 domains. However, these cash parking services prefer to deal with bulk domain name parking (50+): Active Audience and Traffic Z.

How much money can people make with domain cash parking? It depends. Some people have reported earnings of a few cents to earning $50+ a week per domain name.

If you have experience in domain cash parking, please let us know what you think about it and recommend your favourite service.

I think I’m up to $1.06 (US) on my parked domains, now.

2 Char 07.19.07 at 8:37 pm

I have never used the service, but Godaddy.com has a park for $$ service too.

3 FindDiscountCode 07.21.07 at 11:08 pm

I use Sedo.com and get 21 euro per month (from 3 domains)

4 Shai Coggins 07.23.07 at 7:19 pm

Elizabeth: Is that a total amount over how long? Or, is that a weekly/monthly revenue?

Char: Yeah, I’ve heard of GoDaddy’s services but couldn’t quite justify the monthly payment considering they can’t assure you of revenue. I haven’t tried it out and can’t find any positive review of the service.

FindDiscountCode: That doesn’t sound too shabby. How long have you been doing this?

5 Elizabeth 07.24.07 at 3:13 am

Sadly, that is the total over about 6 months.

I do admit, though, that I haven’t put a lot of effort into it, and, it’s only about 6 domains.

Shai Coggins:
6 months

Stay away from godaddy.com for parking services. I tried them for 6 weeks with over 500 names. Then had problems, and switched to parked.com, free service, very user friendly, and the revenue increased 50%. I would like to know comments on other parking services.

8 Mitchell 08.14.07 at 1:16 pm

I use Godaddy.com I make over $100 every day and I have about 30 domains. Some make a lot more then others. I have some that make almost nothing and I have others that make over $1000 per month.

9 MoneyNews 08.21.07 at 4:04 pm

I just got a new domain from GoDaddy stuck it on cash park, and clicked my own links the first 3 days (about 5-6 links a day). Since its a new site I know the only traffic I get is my own since its not listed anywhere. The money earned so far in 3 days was about $8.00 (3×5 = 15 clicks). I paid $9.99 for the service. Average $/click was about $0.50-$1.50(o_O). I’m tempted to go to Sedo.com since some people say it pays out more. Who knows. If anyone has advise for a new domainer let me know.

If your site gets more traffic than just yourself then grab the service, click some links to pay for its self. You got nothing to lose after the first few days.

10 Mitchell 08.21.07 at 11:41 pm

I use godaddy.com because that is were I am able to make the most money. I have tried Sedo.com and I made almost nothing per click. There have been months at Godaddy.com that I have made over $3000. Then they ended up giving me the cash parking service free for an entire year and at 100% instead of only 80% so that helps even more.

11 MoneyNews 08.22.07 at 2:15 am

Mitchell I’m curious to see what type of site generates that kind of revenue. Was it something you developed or a recently expired name that had a lot of incoming traffic. That type of information would be really helpful for me for when I make a decision picking up new domain names. My plan for cash parking is to pick up a few good traffic sites instead of 1000s of not so good ones. I’m learning about page ranks, and how they affect traffic etc.

I have to note that clicking on your own banner ads is looked down upon for internet advertising. There is even a few articles about Google sueing a company for doing so. I was just curious as to what type of payout godaddy offered for its pay per month services to decide whether or not its worth keeping. Similar info regarding Sedo’s payouts would be nice, however I do realize the amount per click might also depend on the subject matter as well. I now have a target of atleast 15-20 clicks per month to break even (about 1500 visitors a month? Correct me if I’m wrong).

12 Arup 08.23.07 at 3:03 am

I parked my domains on sedo and thinking to go for more domains.

I believe investing on domains is a good choice. Anybody got an idea how to increase traffic on your parked domains?

13 cody low 09.17.07 at 1:19 am

I use sedo and earn about a dollar a day I once earned $4+ for one click :)

14 Leonard Holmes 09.23.07 at 4:49 am

Right now Parked and Sedo are doing really well. I have a new chart comparing recommended parking services at ParkQuick.com

15 Tony 10.05.07 at 2:59 pm

i say stay away from godaddy.com for parking services too. i have about 20 domains, and have used for about few months…bad return (can’t even cover the money i paid)and very bad customer service…I will try sedo/sedo pro, not sure yet..

17 Alex 10.07.07 at 11:21 am

Hi folks:

I have a ton of domains at Godaddy and only ‘discovered’ this parking thingy. Can someone help me out? If I own the domains with Godaddy, can I park them at Sedo to make money? I really don’t want to PAY godaddy for something that is unproven as I am not sure how to build traffic to the sites anyhow…

Comments appreciated - ronintoronto@gmail.com if you want to send me suggestions directly. This is a novel idea and would love to create a nice revenue stream on the side if it makes sense.

18 Mitch 10.07.07 at 11:30 am

Yes, you can park them at sedo or namedrive or whereever you want to park them. However read the terms of service for each parking service you want to join. Namedrive doesn’t allow people to drive traffic to the site in my experience.

I’m trying out whypark for a site, and giving it a test run. Details are in my blog. I think Shai is trying out 2 other services in one of her more recent posts. Leonard posted some info about parked.com a few comments up.

Domaining really depends on the domain name. If your site gets alot of type in traffic, you can make okay money @ sedo etc. If your site gets little to traffic them your better off developing it or using something like whypark or other service to get indexed in google for free traffic.

19 Daz 11.01.07 at 7:31 am

I have several sites parked at Sedo and i’m earning next to nothing. I have optimised all domains and researched key words thinking that this will increase revenue, but i have so far failed. The domains that i have are not page ranked and have no links. Is this the cause of my problems? I am struggling to find quality info regarding increasing parking revenue.

I would greatly appreciate any advice from anyone having success with sedo parking.

20 Greg 11.05.07 at 4:14 pm

MoneyNews - what you did is clickfraud by purposely clicking on your own ads. GoDaddy should have figured that out and refunded the cost in clicks to the advertisers and cancelled your account.

21 Mitch 11.05.07 at 4:28 pm

Yea I kind of figured that out after reading the TOS of different domain parking services. Then going on to read about what not to do. Anyways its been has been taken cared of.

22 Miss S. 11.07.07 at 7:20 pm

I do most of my domaineering currently at Parked.com, however, some of my domain names do better at GoDaddy. Parked.com revenue way down last few days. While my friend currently does better at Fabulous.com than with Parked.com, my experience is otherwise. So, I guess it depends on the domain.

23 homemom3 11.08.07 at 5:02 am

I only have about 5 domain names, where would be a good place for me to park at? I know I can’t do it at parked.com as they want you to have 10.

24 Mike 11.15.07 at 2:19 am

Hi, I have about 20 domains parked at godaddy and 8 of them make $0.00 everyday, 3 make about $5.00 average per month while 8 others do about $50 per month. I do however have 1 that does about $1500 per month. Not sure if I am allowed to post the name or not but it starts with http://www.sony____.com It does very very well.
I have to say, It depends on the search term. 1 added note: I don’t think you can do any SEO with a parked domain. Not even sure how you can do that anyway. It will helped if you have a established domain name associated with a website that you have good traffic with prior to parking it. Develope a domain, establish backlinks and have good traffic before you go ahead and park it. But there will be no reason to park your domain if you are making money with your site now. Anyway good luck everyone

im currently using sedo, lets see how the things going on for next one month

26 Tom 12.16.07 at 3:08 am

I have a few domains parked at godaddy & it seems hit and miss. What kind of factor do the keywords play?

27 kfink 12.23.07 at 1:32 am

I’m literally brand new to all this stuff (but am loving every second). I recently pointed my first domain to Sedo parking (and was discouraged to find the clicks were mainly - inadvertently - from me only). A very low (read: pretty much nonexistent) traffic site, so no worries there. But in terms of the multiple domains I am planning on purchasing soon, can anyone recommend WhyPark’s service? I know it’s $100/year, up to 100 names…and it’s supposed to be decent, but I haven’t yet heard why I should choose this over the GoDaddy / Sedo free services…? thanks in advance…

28 Mitch 12.23.07 at 4:37 am

@kfink - breaking it down its $1/domain if you have 100 of them.

Whypark isn’t going to be for most sites, as if you get alot of type in traffic already you might be better off developing or with sedo/namedrive etc.

I would recommend Whypark for sites that does not do well after you tried them out on sedo/namedrive. I also recently finished my report after using it for 100 days. I left my blog link in a previous comment, and don’t want to spam Shai’s blog here with it.

The other reason to go with Whypark if sedo/namedrive doesn’t get you traffic is that you’ll actually gain page rank from being indexed. My trial site received a PR3 last update. If you are into domaining/reselling, sites with some PR does get a little extra money for it.

29 kfink 12.23.07 at 4:45 am

thanks, Mitch - much appreciated advice!

I have over 56 domains listed with Godaddy.com for about 4 months now! I havent collected any revenue at allalthough im earning with them you have to your account has to earn $50 or more to receive a pay check.
wehat is the best way to optimaize those domains in order to get more clicks??/ help please”

31 Aaron 01.18.08 at 2:42 am

Mitchell how long did it take in order to collect your first paycheck from Godaddy.com???

32 Jim 01.18.08 at 5:00 am

Hi, no real good information from anyone on how to actually get traffic to your parked sites.
I`d like to hea rmore form the people claiming $1000 + from a site.
How do you actually GET traffic to the sites?

33 Jim 01.21.08 at 6:25 am

How come on namedrive.com my portfolio shows I have accumulated $15 this month so far with 46 clicks, but when I click on the monthly total or monthly stats page it says I have only made $4.64 with 17 clicks? Does it just take a minute to update or what? Also when it comes time for payday which do I get paid the $15 or the $4? Thanks a lot!

34 merro 02.20.08 at 9:50 pm

i’m pretty new to the cash parking stuff, but i’ve read around on different forums and blogs and tried my parking with a few different places. I have several domains and services with godaddy.com so i figured i would try their cash parking. I highly recommend NOT using them for cash parking. the page layouts suck, the options for custimization on the parked pages is practicly non-existant. on other parking services you can change the layouts a lot more and even put in meta tags, custom sections, ect. and also godaddy charges for cash parking where other companies dont.

I would be interested in finding out if anyone knows how to get more traffic from the average 2-3 word domain names as I hardly get any traffic at all on most of my domain names. thanks,

35 TDurden 02.22.08 at 3:02 am

What are the risks of parking a domain and then building it into a website?

36 merro 02.22.08 at 3:18 am

when you park a domain, it typcally decreases your page rank on search engines. most people build a website up to get page rank then park the domain.

37 Leonard Holmes 02.22.08 at 8:57 pm

There are no risks in parking and then building. A lot of people do that. You may not get SEO while parking, but you won’t have any penalty to deal with later or anything.

38 Kevin Humphrey 03.06.08 at 9:41 am

Mitchell,

I have over 100 domains at godaddy with no success. Can you email me who to talk with on how to maximize key words or what it takes to generate income? humphreykl@earthlink.net

39 kfink 03.06.08 at 9:49 am

Yeah, Mitch (haha) - me too!

My main question for today is: I recently bought and/or transferred over some names, and they generated some decent traffic at FIRST - but now I’m down to 0. Does this have to do with keywords and/or shifts that may have occurred after a transfer? …thanks as always…

40 Renee 03.13.08 at 8:29 am

I just bought 2 domains and I stubbled accross parking I am an Australian resident and after signing up for parking on go daddy ($3,99 for one month so no great loss if I don’t use it) I read the fine print and it seem I have to pay 30% in US taxes, I am a little scared to fill in the forms and commit to cash parking even though I have alreay paid for it because I am unsure If I will also have to pay Australian taxes on the money. What do you guys think?

41 merro 03.14.08 at 4:20 am

I dont believe you have to pay taxes on it twice. when you make any revenue off of godaddy’s cash parking they dont take any out for taxes but they report it to the IRS so if you are a citizen of the US then you have to file it in your taxes. just fyi though, if you use namedrive.com they dont charge monthly fee for parking and dont require tax information. the payout isn’t as good, they give you like 40 - %60 compaired to godaddy’s %80 but with namedrive or parked.com or sedo, ect. you dont have to pay a monthly fee AND you can fully modify the page to make it look the way you want. Godaddy doesnt let you change the content on the page (your own images, links, ect.)

42 Renee 03.14.08 at 8:32 am

Thanks for the info Merro I have now parked two of my domains with Sedo so fingers crossed they create some revenue :) any suggests of how I can optimise traffic to my parked site?

43 Renee 03.14.08 at 8:34 am

opps ment suggestions :)

44 Aaron Rivera 03.14.08 at 12:39 pm

Im back using Godaddy because the payout is much better it take a while but the profit is very nice ;)

45 Aaron Rivera 03.15.08 at 2:49 am

In my opinion Godaddy is best for CP domain hosting ;)

46 merro 03.15.08 at 3:03 am

Godaddy does give better payout but their parking pages are terrible and you cannot modify them at all. So even if you get a better CPC on Godaddy, the chances your going to get decent traffic is pretty slim.

47 Aaron Rivera 03.15.08 at 3:10 am

I dis agree with this people are shopping for discount pricing not templets ;)

48 merro 03.15.08 at 7:11 am

discount prices have nothing to do with cash parking. if you want to get revenue from your cash parking you need traffic, and you need clicks. by optimizing the content of the page you can increase traffic by getting your domain name indexed in search engines. secondly once you get traffic the more your site looks like a parked page the less likely someone is going to click on a link. ideally you want your parked page to look just like any other website.

49 Aaron Rivera 03.15.08 at 8:27 am

I agree with this 100% I optimize all mine on a C note……. ;) ;)

51 Alex 03.15.08 at 11:38 pm

OK, so this thread has picked up pace recently. So far, too many variances on who does better on what. I don’t feel like paying GoDaddy and philosophically, I am starting to dislike Parsons for taking people’s 1st amendment away and removing websites (google it) — he’s going over the top and that monopoly attitude should lead to a “market correction”. In that spirit, if I have 80 domains, do not want to worry too much about anything and make some tests, please name a few properties…
Sedo
WhyPark
Parked…

Does anyone have the FULL LIST Of parking properties which they could email me? ronintoronto@gmail.com — thanks gang!

I love the fact so many people are out there helping each other!

52 Leonard Holmes 03.16.08 at 12:00 am

I haven’t seen a full list anywhere, as people keep joining and leaving the field. Some resources like those you requested:

Comparisons of the best services: http://parkquick.com/content/view/67

Very recent video interviews of leadership of Parked, Sedo, DomainSponsor, and TrafficZ:
http://parkquick.tv

Free monthly newsletter that provides news on the parking companies:
http://namemonetizer.com

It’s not easy to get traffic to the average 2 or 3 word domain name. Most parking services won’t help you get traffic. The best traditional services to help yopu grow traffic are probably Parked and TrafficZ, but you will need to add custom content in order to gain some SEO advantage.

54 Richard 03.16.08 at 11:36 pm

Dear All,

Just signed up with Godaddy and look forward for my first earning. After 1 day, I didn’t see any impression at all. I viewed the page myself without clicking the link. However, in my reports I don’t see any impression at all. Do they need 1 day to refresh their reports?

Any reply is much appreciated!

55 Alex 03.17.08 at 2:01 am

Sorry for being unclear Aaron. Maybe it exists but is there a COMPREHENSIVE LIST of “parking services” - I have heard about 5 or 6 and curious is there are many more.

I’d like to investigate all of them. I have 80+ domains so I’d like to CAPITALize on them with the right service.

56 Aaron Rivera 03.17.08 at 2:59 am

Alex… here are a few:

fabulous, namedrive, sedo, sedo pro, parked, godaddy, whypark.

richard… regarding your cashparking at godaddy, it will take about 24 hours to post. some parking sits like namedrive or parked.com will give you an estimate that shows up a few hours after the click, but the parking services have to validate the clicks before posting an exact amount. which typcally takes about 24 hours.

61 Kathleen 04.15.08 at 10:25 pm

Yeah, I’d like to know that too! How to optimize a CP domain. I have 142 domains parked at godaddy and have made around 60.00 per month consisitently for the past 4 months.

My traffic is increasing this month. So far, I have no complaints about godaddy.

I do want to make a landing page for some of my domains that are similar in topic.

I would appreciate any pointers anyone has about creating landing pages.

Thanks!

62 Janis 04.21.08 at 11:08 pm

Just started purchasing domains. I know how to optiomize blogs so I thought I would try to optimize a few Quickblogcasts I have, attach a domain, SEO them and then get them parked. Anyone every use DOmain SPonsor -cash parking site? I think they are connected to Moniker.

63 Chris 05.02.08 at 11:22 pm

I have 102 sites cash parked with sedo and most of them get unique visitors but no clicks. My two best sites are http://www.1hourpic.com and http://www.stopohio.info. The second site is averaging $5.70 per click.

I would like to find free cash parking that has news feeds and visual content to make it more search engine friendly.

64 merro 05.03.08 at 12:29 am

you could try whypark.com. supposedly they update the content on the site regularly for you so you get better search engine ranking, but they charge a one time fee of $99.

65 Chris 05.03.08 at 12:31 am

That dont sound like a bad deal. I might have to try that.

Thanks

66 Robert 05.10.08 at 8:25 am

I prefer NameDrive for their great templates. songs.ro parked with them looks better than any of my domains parked with Sedo. However I have a problem finding a good domain parking service for my adult domain names. If anyone can suggest me some…

67 Alex Arencibia 07.15.08 at 9:41 pm

Hello:
I have a quick question about your cash parking experience.
I recently took one of my parked domain names and built a website around it.
For some reason, Google will not pick up the domain name under any of the keywords we are marketing it with.
The site is well designed and full of features that attract search engines and keyword searches.

Yet, I am wondering if the fact that the domain names was Cash Parked for about 4 month, if google somehow has it listed or tagged as a Parked site and will not allow it to be marketed????

Any help would be appreciated.

68 Leonard Holmes 07.15.08 at 10:55 pm

I believe that google does not want to index parked pages, so they will indeed try to weed these pages out of their search results. If a site is later developed they usually do pick it up eventually. I imagine that they are slow in doing this because they intentionally do not spider parked sites very often.

69 Lucky Stars 07.30.08 at 1:28 pm

i’ve had about 10 sites parked at sedo for the past 6 months and i’ve made less then a dollar, ive tried optimizing & just leaving some alone, i’ve since developed 2 and am now making about a dollar a day on those…but i’m still very interested in parking i was wondering if some of you wouldn’t mind sharing some info:

Your best 2 or 3 earning websites, where you have them parked, and a avg range they earn very month, im hoping viewing what other people have will give me and others some ideas and maybe a better understanding

for example one of mine would be:

freebieswag.com - sedo - under a dollar

70 David 08.03.08 at 9:17 pm

I have just started on GoDaddy with 8 domains. Let’s see what will happen.

71 Bob 08.10.08 at 8:42 am

I currently have some sites at parked.com I don’t really make alot of money but at least my sites are up until I get time to build a nice webpage and pick up some affiliates for each site.

brad
Somedays it’s just not worth chewing through the straps

72 Kenny Michaels 08.17.08 at 12:07 pm

I’d use why park It’s a buck a site and you can customize it to your keywords

Also has an affiliate program make 50% on every sale

Check it out here:

I have 20 parked domains and i have not being earning since january 2008.How can i direct traffic to them? I undersatand some people earn very well on their parked domains. Please help.

77 Len 09.28.08 at 11:57 pm

That’s the challenge. Most domains don’t get traffic. You could try WhyPark (but you have to pay $99) and create domains with content and AdSense ads. Domain Parking companies want natural traffic. You will usually get kicked-out if you send them paid traffic or other “artificial” traffic.

78 Aaron 09.29.08 at 4:43 pm

cash parking sucks it doesn’t pay

79 jacob waiseder 10.07.08 at 6:50 pm

try domainspa, its free and you can make alot of $$$, they r working 4 your traffic

80 Mitch 10.10.08 at 5:48 am

If anyone was interested I had done a Whypark review over the course of 100 days a while back. Traffic wasn’t too much, but if a domain holder had a domain with little to no traffic Whypark would be able to build a little traffic to it via search engines. If you had 100 or so domains, it would basically it self off in a month or two.

81 Don 10.12.08 at 12:31 am

Hi -
I have several domains that are either at nr 1 or on page 1 at Google. The search results for the domain names are from a few hundred hundred thousand to over 210,000,000.

If you are interested in buying these niche domains - make me an offer.

Send a pm or mail and I’ll let you in on the domain names ;)

C ya!

Domaineering is the business of acquiring and monetizing Internet domain names for their use primarily as an advertising medium rather than as an investment for resale as in domaining. In essence, the domain names function as virtual Internet billboards with generic domain names being highly valued for their revenue generating potential derived from attracting Internet traffic hits. As with traditional advertising, domaineering is part art and part science. Often to be the most effective as advertising tools, the domain names and their corresponding landing pages must be engineered or optimized to produce maximum revenue which may require considerable skill and knowledge of search engine optimization ( SEO ) practices, marketing psychology and an understanding of the target market audience. Domaineering generally utilizes a firm offering domain parking services to provide the sponsored “feed” of a word or phrase searched for. Occasionally content is added to develop a functional mini-website. Domaineers and some of those who advertise online using keywords believe domaineering provides a useful, legal and legitimate Internet marketing service while opponents of domaineering decry the practice as increasing the ubiquitous commercialization of the world wide web. Domaineering is practiced by both large companies who may have registered hundreds or even thousands of domains to individual entrepreneurial minded domaineers who may only own one or a few.

learn to crack wep with backtrack, (linux) plenty explicit tutorials online, go from hood to hood, crack wireless networks, click your pages… get that traffic. That means unique IP clicks.. and that = $$$$$

I have several cash parking web sites: familydowntime.com, traveldowntime.com, outdoordowntime.com. altogether they have made 20.19 over a two week period. The key seems to be getting your site on free web site submission sites like submitexpress.com. Seems to take a little time getting it going. My hope is that it will pickup. Any recommendations on how to optimize would be appreciated.

I do not understand why all these cash parking sites, do not allow you to generate/ promote your domain name(parked page). By promoting it, it would drive more people to click on the websites inside the parked page……..and if Im not mistaken, isnt that what these people want?

So what, you promote the site, people click on the links….I get paid and the people who own the link that got clicked on….have a customer.

Whats the problem with that?
