Since I was just talking about domains a few days ago, I thought it’ll be interesting to carry on the conversation in this thread. I’m just curious to know about people who buy domain names – and where they buy them.
Ever since I got in to domain name buying some 7 or 8 years ago, I only ever used 3 domain registrars: EZNameService, Dotster, and GoDaddy. EZNameService was quite expensive, but the service was good. Dotster wasn’t good in my experience both on the price and service fronts.
GoDaddy is the cheapest I’ve found so far, but personalised customer service is practically non-existent. But, since I somehow know my way around when it comes to domains, that’s something I can overlook. I certainly couldn’t use them when I was only starting out.
What about you? Do you own domain names? Why or why not? Where have you bought your domains and why?
I have purchased domains through Network Solutions (expensive) and GoDaddy. I prefer GoDaddy because they are less expensive. I rarely need the technical help, but when I have, they have always been good.
I have used several registrars for approximately 9 years and I am really like MyDomain.com because of their easy to use and expanded domain name interface and they now offer discounted registrations for multiple domains.
I buy mine from namecheap.com
I buy my domain names through GoDaddy, mainly because they are the cheapest I have found and you can usually get discount codes for further savings. I´m a bit of a domain name addict, so it is rather important that the domain be cheap!
I think Network Solutions trumps all in terms of service… but they are rather expensive. And, just like Char said, you really don’t need much tech support with domains (hopefully!).
However, NS is expensive… my choice is 1and1. (http://1and1.com.) They’re cheap, simple to use, and clutter free. (I feel like GoDaddy attempts to shove every possible service they offer in your face.) Right now, I pay $5/year for my domains.
There’s a software called Nemeas that can help you find superior domain names–it scores domain names in terms of top search engine results. http://www.nemeas.com

I own domain names and decided to use Go Daddy because of the ease and price. Completely agree that they are terrible with customer service. They are also very vague about services in order to get beginners to spend more.

Interestingly, this was on TV last week!
