To encourage you all to ask more questions during this week’s Open Mic Monday topic, I thought I should answer one of the questions that was posted. And, in the process, add a new Q & A section here at JMMO.
So, here you go.
Here, Scott Allen started off with a real tough challenge/question:
“OK, I got one for you, Shai… I know there’s no way to get rich quick, but let’s say that you had, oh, less than $50 to start with, no established reputation, no web site — what is the fastest way to start earning money online — doesn’t have to be big money, but let’s say significantly more than minimum wage.
For example, if you wanted to make an extra $1,000 in the next two weeks, starting from scratch, what would you do?”
Ooookkkaayyy. First of all, two weeks to make an extra $1,000 certainly sounds like a lot of moolah to make from scratch. And yes, after looking at every possible “make money opportunity” on the web over the last decade, I can attest that there’s no such thing as a get-rich-quick scheme that really works. At least, not in my experience. And yes, there are things that I’m just not in the market to try (even though I have been invited).
Having said that, let me try to answer Scott’s question with my Best Case Scenario Hat on.
So, if I had just $50 to spend and with absolutely zero web presence to work with, here are 3 ideas on how to make money online as quickly as possible:
1) Look and/or Post at Job Boards. Even if I’m not looking for a full time gig, other work (consultancy, work-for-hire, etc) can definitely lead to a good part-time income. In fact, I made my first few dollars online doing a variety of freelance work.
Some possible ideas: Writing content for various publications, editing/copywriting, and offering various services for a fee. Whether you’re good at organising, designing, or speaking – there’s a job out there for you.
2) Source for a Great Product to Sell. Then, do an all-out campaign to sell it in at least 3 ways: eBay, my own site/blog, and through active participation in a relevant community (forums, Facebook, etc). If I haven’t got something that I can produce, I will do some flea market treasure hunting and/or I’d hit the garage sales. And maybe, check storage rooms of friends and family.
During the days when I was actively selling on eBay, I’ve heard of a few good stories of sellers making big bucks in unexpected ways. For example, there was a seller who found a popular old book in a garage sale for about $5. Then, she thought of having it appraised and was surprised at the valuation. I believe the book ended up sold for a few hundred dollars.
Oh, and sometimes, it’s not The One Big Great Product. Often, it’s just a collection of small good products that people would love to have.
Of course, there’s a catch here: To know what products to sell and to know how to sell them – you’ll need to have done some market research and such.
3) Do Something Crazy or Wild. This is one of those things that I just can’t – and won’t – try first hand. But, I know some people doing all sorts of online experiments – from trying silly stunts that attract plenty of attention (and cash) – to doing something “in secret” (like getting in to the adult industry). But, other than these, something crazy or wild might simply mean trying lotto/sweepstakes, getting involved in sports betting or some kind of ‘online busking’.
Yes, I know that #3 won’t be for everyone. And, I’m not at all endorsing illegal and indecent activities. I’m just trying to point out the different ways people make money cheaply and quickly.
Hmmm… any other ideas, anyone?

Another quick way to make money online is to find a home-based transcription job. If you can type quite fast and you have no problem with accents, there are a lot of podcast producers or teleconference hosts who are mostly Internet entrepreneurs who are looking for transcriptionists. Within 3 to 4 hours, which is the average time that you’ll spend typing a 1-hour audio file, $10-15 can be had. This of course depends on your arrangement with the client.
I’m probably the biggest internet dummy ever,
but yesterday I made $240. The day before I
made $160; The day before that I made $80,
and the day before that I made $280.

I don’t even sell anything. I give something
away for free, and every time I give it away,
I make money.
I virtually guarantee you can be making money
in the next hour, if not sooner. All you need to
do is read this amazing new FREE e-book that
reveals the whole incredible system. Yes, that’s
right, the e-book is completely free….
No strings attached.
All you have to do is go to the website download the ebook, and read it. once you
read it take action.
Ryan, I think your site is what Shai was referring to above… the part about get rich quick schemes not working.
Kyle I read your blog, If your not making at least
1,000 online a month then something is wrong no offense. There are so may ways to make money.
Its almost hard not to make more than 1,000 online a month. If you want to learn how just email me.
And how is my website a get rich quick scheme.
I really feel offended that you would refer to it as such.
But its all good. I gues… maybe you have ever been exposed to the fact there are people who make millions of dollars online on a yearly basis….
Yessir the internet is Real
Ryan,
I just took a quick glance at your site. I think the thing that makes people wary is the puffery. Maybe you do make that much money and help others do it too, but your comment would make the average reader a bit skeptical.
I agree with Kyle. I’m skeptical.
Put it this way, there are more people boasting about the money they are making who have none, than people who have money that don’t boast.
So many people over look my job, even when they see me do it, it’s amazing. I make anywhere from $600-$1000 per week (actually I only work 3 days per week because now I dont need to work more than that) and do next to nothing except have fun for the entire 7 hour shift!
Its a job that requires no diplomas, degrees, drug testing or background checks and theres places of employment in almost every city.
It may not be a job everyone would do, but all would agree it’s probably one of the easiest high paying jobs in the world.
check out my site if your interested in getting more information.
Making money online is easier than it seems to be…..Yes that is right. It just require some time and constancy. I make over $100 per day(which is not bad, I guess) Do you want to know how: please visit: http://www.Moneyearningblogs.com
I love how a genuine question made by the author results in these barely concealed “pitches” from people who are supposedly participating in the aforesaid “genuine” discussion.
It’s funny and a little ironic.
Personally, I’d probably do the following:
1. Find a cheap hosting company that has Fantistico – create a Wordpress blog.
2. Head over to Commission Junction or any other affiliate management company. Choose a product or service you think is interesting and sign up for their advertising program.
3. Write at least one insightful article reviewing the product or service on your blog and make sure the link to the product or service that you’re talking about is your affiliate link. (that the affiliate manager like CJ provides you.)
4. Spend some time on blogs and in forums that deal with this product, niche, or sector and make insightful and valuable contributions to the discussion. Make a footnote reference to the fact that you’ve done a review and include the link to the article if possible.
5. Analyze the traffic using a tool like Google Analytics.
6. Hopefully watch sales be made.
I’ve done this and made hundreds of dollars over a very short amount of time. I use this method to test interest in particular products and services.
For an example see this post I made on one of my blogs: http://vacantdesk.com/review-of-earth-class-mail/
nice comment Mark, thanks for sharing, this will be a great help for starters. hope you have an open line for beginners.
I enjoyed your comments.
keep it up

Hello,
Thanks for the basic tips to start making money online, there is so much stuff on the net like “make $4,000 Per day” sometimes you need to hear some real minded goals so thanks for that.
Steve

Hi. I love reading all these posts and articles about making money online. Ive been searching for years for a way to make money from home. I’ ve just started a new website and am a beginner in affiliate marketing. I’m learning a lot and hope to continue doing so. Please take a look at my site and tell me what you think. http://www.makingmoneyonlineornot.com/.
I’d really appreciate it. Robin
Hello Allen:
I agree with you that there’s no way to make money fast and easy online for someone that’s very new to this. Heck, I can’t even do it.
But, two years ago I started my marketing blog and I wrote about what I was learning and how I was doing at some things and I put offers on my blog.
I’ll never forget my first sale. And I never looked back.
Now I am trying my hand at niche blogs but first I have to tell you about my complete failure at marketing “panic away” http://www.panicattackanxietycure.com
Last month I had sent over 3000 people to the money page and I had three sales – over a five month period.
The problem. Way too much competition and lousy conversion. I’m letting it run because it racks up money clicks every day and they go right to the pitch page, then they yawn and go home. Lordy.
What a ton of work for nothing EXCEPT I learned a LOT!
Picking niches is tricky and I picked a doozy. By the way “doozy” is an expression that originated with the Dusenberg automobile. The owners would say, “She’s a doozy!”
