We all know the importance of promotions and marketing. Once, I heard about this 20/20/20/20/20 Rule somewhere. Basically, the idea was that a business should have a 5-way promotional plan. 20% of marketing efforts in every business should be spent in 5 different areas.
Whether your online business is about running an online store, developing a website directory, or publishing a weblog – you should have a promotional plan.
An example promotional plan for a blogger might be:
20% – Commenting on other blogs
20% – Getting listed in various directories
20% – Advertising using AdWords
20% – Direct emails and chats with bloggers
20% – Participating in Blog Carnivals
What’s YOUR 5-way promotional plan? Do you have one at all? How are you currently promoting your online business?

I do market, but with the 20/20/20.. rule you are suggesting. I like it. I will make an attempt to use it for the month of September.
oops, CORRECTION – “not with the 20/20/20… rule
That’s a great idea! I’m going to make a 20/20/20/20/20 promotional plan starting today based on my current business.
It’s important not to focus all of our promotional efforts in just ONE or TWO of those categories, because unfortunately that will probably cause us to decrease the performance of our business. Thanks for the heads up on staying focused!
I’m using comments on other blogs. I mail links to other blogs and bloggers with articles I wrote about something of wich I think will interest them. I have a large list of directories that I ping after writing a blog post.
I should to try the other ones to but I have to little time.
?You probably ask yourself what is the fast and easy way to make money online
I’m sorry I can’t tell you hove to make money online, not because I don’t want to tell you how to make money online, but because I don’t know how to make money online. What I do know is to feel like I have made money online. And I’m ready to tell you how to feel like you have made money online.
Go to the “write myself a check” section and sent it over to your friends.
Tell me, what does it feels like you have made money online?

I have just recently learned more about using 2.0 sites to promote online businesses. I have more than one, but here are the ways I promote my main, freelance biz:
1. Commenting on blogs
2. Sharing my links with other social bookmarkers
3. Submitting to directories
4. Linking from my own blogs and websites
Well, I haven´t got the 5-20% thing down yet, but it´s a great idea!
One of the creative things we did when promoting Neighborino was to submit to a couple design/css galleries. As a result similar design/gallery sites saw this and then promoted us on their own sites.
Since we provide neighborhoods and communities with HOA Websites, it is pretty obvious to target blogs and people down that channel; But we thought about what else we bring to the table, and targeted some efforts towards people who appreciate great design.
As you promote your online business, think about what else you bring to the table besides the obvious. You may just find customers where you least expect them.
Good luck!

This is an excellent way to promote any blog out there. I personally can add the following, use the social sites like Digg, Stumbleupon and Delicious to spread the word of your blog.
