October 2007 PageRank Update: Wake Up Call?

Everybody’s talking about it. This most recent pagerank update didn’t bring good tidings for those who were expecting higher ranks. It actually brought disaster — for those who worship the Google PageRank toolbar at least.

I’m not trying to be self-righteous here since I also benefit greatly from the value that search engine marketers give to the pagerank toolbar. However, with how my niche blog is doing, I can see that soon many SEO experts will get wiser and use other metrics for website appraisal. My blog is only PR3, which has decreased to PR2 by the way, but I’m starting to love the growth of its pageview rate and the number of text links it sold. I just hope that it’s not too soon to conclude though that this pagerank update won’t really affect that blog’s traffic.

But I digress – just a few minutes ago, I’ve read the Text-Link-Ads’ Link Buying Guide and noticed that Tip no. 1 is Buy Relevancy, Not PageRank. I’m not sure but I thought I a few days ago I only read about Relevancy without the mention of “Not PageRank” or was it there all this time?

Although I don’t know what Google is really up to, I just wish that monetizing sites would not only involve pagerank. How about more transparency with the keywords that a blog is ranking high with? Will tools like SEODigger.com be the next best thing then?

Its the Google dance, you probably just checked it when it was dancing around. Your at a PR 5 when I checked on digpagerank.

I’d wait a day or so for it to settle down so we can all compare numbers. Its showing I’m at a PR2 now, which I’ll be happy for since my blog is not even 2 months old.

    @ Mitch

I hope it’s really just the Google dance. But this is not the blog I’m talking about. It’s http://alfamercado.com/alfa

Wow I didn’t pay attention to the author of the post. Reading comprehension for the lose.(sorry the gamer in me came out there). I can see now why if you don’t change ad placement people just skip over sections of your page to get to the content.

That is a strange thing for the site, and it looks like you have some pretty prominent links pointing to you as well. Over at the DP forums though many are saying while pagerank went up/down for a bunch of sites, the search engine rankings haven’t budged. So it just means that the little green bar up top is just a status symbol.

Pagerank isn’t everything, my parked domain got a higher PR than my blog this update.

Mitch: Interesting that your parked domain got a higher PR! Who can ever understand these things? ;-)
