Your Advice to Someone Who is Trying to Make Money Online

by Alfa Mercado on January 10th, 2008

Make Money Online LessonsAs a self-taught web worker, I consider myself lucky to surmount all the obstacles that someone who wants to make money online is bound to encounter and still remain just partially unscathed.

Last year, I’ve learned that sound financial management is a big factor to consider if you want to really taste the sweet fruits of your labor. I can’t say that I’ve squandered my earnings last year, but I was not able to plan for the worse - worse programs and clients that is. :-)

Now I have a friend that I used to work with when I was still doing a 9-to-5 who has also ended his being a corporate slave and is now focusing to use his skills to make money through online means without a boss breathing down his neck.

We often have chats and our usual discussions are about ways on how to make it as a freelancer and transition successfully into a full-time web worker. Although I haven’t walked the talk last year, I often tell him about the importance of financial management since an empty fridge and growing piles of bills can make him change his mind and go back to the rat race.

Now for the benefit of those who are just starting to tread the path toward earning through the Internet this year just like my friend, I’d like to ask what are the experiences you had or the greatest bits of advice you’ve learned about making money online last year that you wish you’ve learned a lot earlier?

I think the best piece of advice I have experienced myself is to find one program, research and learn it and work it to no end! Just because it doesn’t turn a profit in the first month (and some don’t) doesn’t mean it’s a scam. Usually, people end up going quickly to the next gig and the cycle begins again. So find a program, stick with it and don’t give up. Oh yeah, and you’ve got to believe in it and love it to make it successful!

    @ Bridget

I’ll take note of that. Thanks!

Here are few that have helped me quit my full time corporate career this past November and work at home full time as an Internet marketer.

    1. Diversify your sources of income. There was a time I just depended all on AdSense and ignored everything else. When I saw Google was acting a bit inconsistent with the funds, I went back to fundamentals. I added different type of lead based affiliate programs to my site.

Results: The lead based programs I started promoting combined make me more than Google per month. And I’m still collecting checks with Google. Diversify!!

    2. Lather, rinse and repeat! I started tracking everything much closer to see what things were working well on my sites and which weren’t. If something worked really well on my homepage which was always the testing ground because of the concentration of traffic, I then repeated it on my secondary pages. Rinse and Repeat. This can be done over and over again. I’ve increased my income nearly every month doing this process without necessarily getting any new traffic.

    3. Don’t get complacent. A few years back I thought I was the man because I was earning thousands of dollars per month with Google. But then they started paying me less and I was stuck for a while. I had gotten complacent. I didn’t have the same hunger so I had stopped looking for other opts that would’ve made me money. But as I stated above, I corrected that and added to my revenue stream. And even though I’m doing really well now, I’ve a mindset of someone that is struggling and poor. So I’m always looking at my site and trying to figure out how I can squeeze more money out of it.

Those 3 things have helped me quit a full time job of close to 90k to run my websites full time. (Warning, Shameless plugs. lol: http://www.WorkAtHomeCareers.com, http://www.WorkAtHomeNoScams.com & InternetMarketingSmarts.com)

I hope this helps. Its helped me and people I’ve consulted on their websites.

    Take care.

I actually have two pieces of advice - Do your research. No matter how easy something looks, research every angle. See what others are saying and no the ins and outs, pros and cons. Then decide whether or not it’s worth your time.

My second piece of advice is not to expect anything to happy overnight or even right away. For many online money making opportunities, money doesn’t even start to trickle in for a few months. Don’t expect to get rich overnight, because the only time that happens is with a scam.

    Have a nice weekend!

I found a nice website that explains what you can expect from online money making systems. I think it’s true that most websites tell you that,..try this and you’ll be rich tomorrow, just for them to get rich,..anyway, take a look you might find this interesting.
