List of Online Payment Systems

online payment systems
No matter what type of online business you have, you need a way to get paid. Once upon a time, people who were in online businesses  can only get paid either via cheques and money orders ; or using merchant accounts. Now, there are several ways to receive money from any part of the world. Some popular choices include:
1) Paypal - This is perhaps the most popular online payment system. Many folks use this is a primary way to send and to receive money. They serve most countries. Buyers can also pay using credit cards, echecks, and other options.

2) Xoom – Xoom is an alternative for some people residing in countries that are not being served by Paypal. Generally reliable, although some people have encountered issues with it.

3) Moneybookers – This service is another payment system that’s popular amongst some online workers. However, a few issues have also been reported in the last few years, including this one.

4) Google Checkout – Checkout is slowly gaining popularity among online retailers. Some folks like the fact that it can be integrated in Google Adwords, for increased product visibility.

5) WorldPay – I only know a 1 or 2 people who used this in their online business, so I’m not quite sure what they’re like.

What about you? Which online payment system do you use? How do you like it? Do you know of any other systems?

I personally and for business use PayPal. I have been using them since 2001 and I will add, without one single problem. For this reason I have not bothered with other online payment systems.

Everything is tied into my bank account and makes it really easy to send and receive money online.

WorldPay – they can be okay and are very large however I’ve run into a number of issues with them. They don’t process funds fast enough & their technology can be a pain in the *** to integrate.

I would suggest 2Checkout.com (2co.com) as an alternative – much better. Of if you are NZ based as I am try http://www.dps.co.nz great bunch of guys and always there to help

Hi Shai, how can you miss out on the infamous e-Gold hehe.. Despite the bad press and the crooked reputation, it is still a very popular choice for online money making. Recently, this new one called Liberty Reserve is getting extremely popular too. Overall PayPal is still the best for me.

James: Love Paypal too. It works.

Mr K: That’s good to know. And yes, I’ve heard about 2Checkout but forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder!

Ken: Hmmm… not sure if I wanted to add e-Gold as a way to get paid. Not sure about Liberty Reserve. Thanks for the tip. :-)

Great rundown! I’ve been checking out pay per click systems lately and one I’ve joined that looks interesting has just dropped PayPal for something called AlertPay.
Since I had not heard of them I want to check out other peoples experiences before signing up for an account. Anyone know of AlertPay?

Mathew, I have an AlertPay account but have never used it all. It is used by many autosurfs/HYIPs which are mostly scams so you can imagine its reputation. I’m trying to be fair to them but it looks like AP does have more negatives than positives. You can check it out here http://www.moneymakergroup.com/AlertPay-f136.html :) Ken

Thanks for the links and info Ken. Turns out I can extract payments with PayPal and buy with Visa now, so I can avoid AlertPay for the moment.

AlertPay is far superior to PayPal and is very trustworth!

I took the time to log on to this guy’s account referred to in the link above, and a big red flag goes up about his story right off the bat! –look at his so-called company name “GLOBAL MONEY”. He was involved clearly in some unsavoury money transactions and AlertPay caught it. Some victim compained, and an investigation is more than likely under way and the funds are held until it is determinded whether they were fraudulently obtained. Well, well! Looks to me AlertPay caught the scammer and not the other way around. Come on people, don’t believe this guy is a victim for one moment. AlertPay should be congratulated for the fine work it has done in order to protect unsuspecting people from the scam this artist was most likely propagated. 2nd red flag was that a legitimate business would want to be verified as soon as possible and have the documentation to do so. This individual is clearly the scammer!

There is a new payment systems directory – http://www.onlinepaysystems.info. Looks like it’s still under construction but going to be pretty good service.

    Hello!
    I use three systems:
    PayPal, E-Gold, WebMoney and RuPay.
PayPal is very propagated but has problem with security. The transfer fee is too big.
E-Gold is not bad and It is easy to use.
WebMoney is the excellent payment system. Safety is very good, there is good support and the transfer fee is not big. There are many sub-accounts for different currency. The minus is, it is very propagated only in Russia, but in the Europa/America it is hardly used. The another site of the good Safety, it is quite complicated to use.
RuPay is in principle not bad, but it work only with russian rubel. The plus is, there is good interest for the money in account.
Another payment system I have not used.

It depends on what you’re selling. For high-risk or high-volume online businesses, you’ll have a rough go of it. You need a merchant processor who specializes in high risk, high volume such as http://www.ChargeNational.com.
