Make Art? Make Money with Red Bubble

by Shai Coggins on January 15th, 2008

Red-Bubble-ImgDo you love photography or creating artwork? Have you considered selling and exhibiting your work in an art gallery? What about an online art gallery?

Red Bubble is an online art marketplace and creative community. You can sell prints, greeting cards, posters, T-shirts and other products based on your own photography, artwork or design. With $0 outlay. All you need to do is sign-up for a Red Bubble account (free), upload your work, choose the products that you wish to sell, and start selling.

Red Bubble simply gives you a base price and you just add your mark-up price. Whatever it is you add, you keep. Yes, it pretty much works like CafePress. Except maybe a bit more high end. Lots of good quality stuff.

How do artists/sellers get paid? From the site:

RedBubble will transfer your earnings on or before the 7th day of each month for your previous month’s sales by either direct bank / PayPal transfer or by posting a cheque – depending on which payment option you choose. Bank / PayPal transfer will be paid out when you have accrued at least 20 USD (or equvalent in GBP/ Euro/ AUD) and cheques will be sent to you once you have earned at least 100 USD (or equivalent in GBP/ Euro/ AUD) – currency depends on your settings. Your earnings will continue to roll over each month until they reach these minimum values.

If you would like to be paid straight away, for a 5 USD fee we will send you a cheque or make a direct bank transfer on demand.

A much better deal, compared with CafePress, if you ask me. I especially like the low pay threshold that can be paid via Paypal. Now, that’s cool.

The site also has a great interface, a vibrant community, and feedback I’ve read so far seems pretty great. Check out their Sell page or their FAQ section. Will definitely explore more.

Share your feedback here if you’ve got experience buying or selling on Red Bubble.

I’ve got some of my photos at RedBubble, it’s a fun place and a good alternative to Imagekind, where I also have some stuff.

There are sure lot’s of Print on Demand places to choose from, something to fit just for just about every artist or photographer.

I saw one of the RedBubble guys, Mark Mansour, talking at Web Directions last year. I wasn’t particularly interested in the content of the site, but the insight he provided on how the site was built and monetized was quite interesting.

I really like to make some money with my art I have been an artist all my life but never really considered selling my art. I like to get into the art field but with a full time job I just don’t have the time if I could find a sponsor to fund me money I could work on my art and start selling, because at this point my work is considered professional, I just need the means to become great.
y art work can be viewed at the website http://www.greeting2u.bravehost.com.
