Well, when JMMO readers and visitors were asked: How much money do you hope to make online in 2008?, majority of the voters said $10,000+ / month (23% of all votes). There’s also an additional 12% who voted the second to the highest amount of: $5000 – 10,000 / month. That’s 35% of folks expecting no less than $5,000/month of online business income. Wow.
Now that’s a real jump from folks saying that majority of JMMO readers have made little to no money online at all. This makes me wonder whether: 1) People who visit and read JMMO have become money makers now; or 2) People are feeling quite optimistic about the thought of making money online; or 3) People have unrealistic expectations about making money online. Hmmm… What do you think?
Anyway, the rest of the poll says: There’s an equal amount of people expecting somewhere low to mid-range (13% each) – $101 – 500 / month, $ 501 – 1000 / month, $1001 – 2000 / month and $2000 – 5000 / month. Total of 52%.
The lower brackets of $1 – 50 / month and $ 51 – 100 / month received 7% of all votes each (total 14%).
There were 442 voters for this poll.
So, yeah, it looks like a lot of folks are expecting a good amount of income from online businesses, hoping to make $5,000 upwards.
Where are you in this range? Are you one of those who’s expecting to make a lot of income from your online endeavours, or are you at the other end of the spectrum, hoping to make even just a small amount? How do you expect to reach your goals this year? Any thoughts, plans and ideas?
Anyway, thanks again to everyone who voted. I’ll be posting a new poll shortly.
I think most of those responses are unrealistic. I’d love to know how much money these blogs are currently making, as compared to their goals.
How about a pie chart of these results instead of that photo? A picture is worth a thousand words.
You have a typo near the middle of this article, remove the extra $ “(total $14%).”
I honestly don’t remember what my vote was – however it may have erred on the optimistic side
I have had a good January with payouts from most of my PayPerClick accounts, but that represents some buildup of effort. My advertising & marketing is what I’m still learning, reading here is a great tool to keep me on track!
Michael: Unfortunately, my spreadsheet/chart maker isn’t available at the moment. So, didn’t get the chance to do any charting with this. Thanks for the heads up on the typo. Fixed now.
Matthew: Guess, it doesn’t always hurt to be optimistic.
Anyway, good to know that your efforts are being rewarded. Hope your online biz keeps growing. If you’ve got anything specific that you’d like to ask, please feel free to let me know. And, we’ll see if we can find some answers.
I think most people are saying what they would like to make a month.
I think most people have unrealistic ideas about making money online. A business takes time to build. You can not make alot of money instantly. I know there are people out there who are very successful, such as James Brausch in the IM world but he or anyone else did not do that there first day online.
A business also needs to keep promoting. You can not just start a business and then not get the word out. If you don’t promote you won’t get anywhere. There is no “I build it and they will come”. You need to persuade people to come to you.
Most people are unrealistic about their online goals, but with a little work and passion for what you are doing it can be done!
cameron: I suppose it’s fair enough. But yeah, I just wonder if it’s more like a “wish” rather than a “goal”?
Ross: Yeah, that may seem to be the case. And yes, I agree with you about building one’s business and all.
Roy: Absolutely agree. And, with work + passion should also come planning and meeting goals.
