It’s Public Holiday Monday today here in Adelaide, South Australia. Folks are taking the time off to celebrate the state’s biggest horse racing day - the Adelaide Cup.
I must admit that I’ve never been to a real horse racing event. But, I still enjoy the festivities. BBQs, fun hats, parties…
Anyway, I know that during public holidays like today, I have to do a bit of preparation for my online work, if I intend to take the day off or something. Things like: posting in advance in my blog/s, notifying co-workers/readers, setting vacation mails, etc. may be in order to keep my online work going smoothly.
What about you? What do you do to organise your online business when you go on holiday? What steps do you take to ensure that everything works properly, even when you’re away from your computer?

Hi Shai!
I run my own home business… Ever since I started blogging, I’ve had and *even harder* time getting away from my desk.
If I’m anywhere near my computer, I get sucked back in. I’ll just check a little email… and four hours later, I’m still there. You know what I mean?
I wrote a post a few weeks ago about what I need to do to (practically) force myself to take time off: http://www.myorganizedbiz.com/happy-birthday-to-me-how-to-take-a-whole-day-off/
Okay, so my birthday’s not exactly a national holiday.
Still applies, right?
Since I started my online business I haven’t been able to take vacations but when the time comes, I’ll follow your method. Good post!
I make sure I have my phone with me so I can still check my emails. however, i do tell my clients when and if I am away.
Like Jennifer, I have a bad habit of staying too close to my computer. But with me taking vacation in less than a month, I have to come up with a plan to be away from my blog for that long of period of time. Your post here really helps me come up with ideas. Thanks!
Jennifer: Know exactly what you mean. And yes, your birthday counts!
Joseph: It is very difficult when you run your own business. But, it definitely is a good thing!
ChiQ: Sounds like a good plan.
Bridget: Glad that helped! Hope you get some good breaks.
