Poll Results: Making Money Online as an Occupation

Just concluded last month’s poll: Is making money online your main occupation?
And, as you can see from the chart here, it looks like majority of JMMO readers and visitors are only investigating the prospect of making money online (41%). They’re still researching, and finding out the best way to make money online, I suppose. I’m really amazed at this number. I thought this will be much lower. But, it does help me to think of what kind of resources to develop here at JMMO.
Other than the “research only” group, 17% of the voters said that making money online is just a hobby. So, it looks like a good 58% of folks are not in this area as a job. At least, not yet anyway.
Then, there are 23% of folks who said that making money online is a Part time job. And, only 18% said that this online venture is a Full time job.
A further 1% fall in the ‘Other’ category. Not quite sure what ‘Other’ is in this case, though.
What’s your take on this? If you can give some advice to the majority of the JMMO readers/visitors who’re in the “research only” stage, what would your advice be?
Anyway, thanks again to all who took the time to vote in our poll. I’ll be posting a new poll for the month shortly.

I didn’t participate in the poll, but if I did, I’d have trouble deciding between hobby and part time job. Is $150-200 per month enough to be considered a part time job or is it still just in the hobby category?

I participated and I answered part time since earning roughly $100 per month is just a plus and not something I can call a full time job earnings.
Before I joined the paid blogging world, my blog is purely about my thoughts and feelings (whether positive or negative) as I see it and it is mostly written in our native language which is Tagalog. That for me is how it makes my blog more personal because that’s how I am when you see me in person.
Since I was a SAHM and was finally persuaded by lots of mommy bloggers, I joined the paid blogging world late last year not knowing that I’ll be going back to the corporate world early this year. Anyway, it was a nice feeling every time I get to receive a note that another payment has been made to my PayPal account and that what drives me until now.
My honest opinion is, if you have lots of time to give and dead serious in blogging, can multi-task, a good writer and can give good quality information, then probably you can invest your time and blog to make it as a full time career. :)

Alan: I guess, that will depend on where you are in your life and what’re your expectations from paid blogging. If you’re treating this as a “job” - w/hopes to make more money in the future, then it is a part time job. If you’re just having fun and any money you get is simply a bonus, then it must just be a hobby. ;-)
mEldita - So glad that you did give it a go. And, even if you do start at a ’small-ish’ number, you never where it will go from there. ;-) I started making money online with $15-30/month. Now, it’s a full time job + business.
