I couldn't figure out how to find "friends" when there was no way to search by name. I guess I was stuck in a "myspace mentality". Now I'm happily twittering and consider it a great addition to my blog. I can keep people quickly up to date, post quick photos, and catch the breaking news (like the recent earthquakes here in the midwest US- the news broke on Twitter an hour before I saw it on the TV news). Like I said I am still working through my expectations... Am loving Twitter more and more but am still working through my thoughts on it (I know I am not alone in this).

I started using it to follow some individuals I wanted to learn from and very much enjoy that aspect of it as well as the ability to share pieces of my own, ongoing, internal monologue.

Then I figured out that it is having a group of people to follow (who I do care about for one reason or another) that makes Twitter matter. I have business contacts, personal contacts and folks who are both in my Twitter stream. I genuinely care about them and what is going on in their lives - be it personal or business. Twitter is a way to build relationships with people. I don't follow those who are only there for a one-way conversation. This includes spammers, bots and self-important types.
