A few weeks ago, I came across another content site where you can make money online. It’s called HubPages . The basic idea is that you can make money either through (or both):
1) Affiliate Referrals – You sign-up in their affiliate programme and you promote different articles called “hubs” using your unique affiliate referral tracking links.
2) Writing Content via Revenue Share – You write content about any topic you might have in mind (or create content as a response to requested topics).
With the revenue share, you need to provide your affiliate account info with: Google Adsense, Amazon, Kontera, and/or eBay Affiliate Network. From HubPages:
After you’ve joined the affiliate programs from eBay, Amazon and Google, ads for these three companies (and we’re looking to add more) appear on your Hubs. Any revenue generated during one of your impressions (a click-through with Google, an actual purchase with Amazon or eBay) is 100% yours.
HubPages splits the impressions with you in the following way:
1. Your own Hubs: Hubbers receive 60% of total impressions.
2. The HubPages Affiliate Program: You can refer new writers to HubPages and they become Hubbers within 30 days, you receive an additional 10% of their Hubs’ lifetime impressions.
3. Traffic Referral Program: If you send traffic to any Hub, you’re entitled to either 9% or 12% of total impressions. You’ll receive 9% if the Hub you’ve referred people to already has impressions allocated to an Affiliate. If there are no Affiliates, you’ll receive 12% of the total impressions.Whatever is left from the splits above goes to HubPages. Note that these splits apply only to HubPages and User Profile pages. On all other pages, such as a referral to a Tag page or the HubPages home page, you’ll receive 30% on a traffic referral, with HubPages getting the rest.
Basically, it reminds me a lot of Squidoo, with some adjustments here and there (and not as many affiliate link partnerships). One thing I like about it is that it seems to have a decent community. And, the points system seem to encourage better content quality (or at least, better networking skills).
I have yet to see what are the advantages (or disadvantages) of Hubpages, compared to other content revenue/affiliate sharing sites. If you have any experience working with HubPages, I’d love to get your feedback.

Hey Shai,
Ryan Hupfer, HubPages Communicator of Awesomeness! here. I appreciate the mention of having HubPages land on your radar and I wanted to throw a couple of thoughts your way regarding what all we can offer the writing/marketing/I-want-to-make-money-online community out there.
As far as HubPages goes, we pride ourselves on offering the best possible online writing platform for anyone who is interested in finding any of these 3 things:
1. Finding an amazing place to write content that you want to be ‘findable’ on the web, i.e. very searchable(Google/Yahoo! loves us).
2. Connecting with others who have similar interests and passions, i.e. being part of a thriving community of truly awesome and interesting people.
3. Wanting to be compensated for the content that they create and to be rewarded for content that gets significant traffic, i.e. want to make better money for better content.
The things that differentiate us right of the bat from anyone else out there are:
1. A super-simple, even-your-grandma-could-use-it writing interface that makes it easy to put together really comprehensive and interesting content.
2. The best content you can find, which basically makes us best buds with the guys over at Google and Yahoo!. We don’t allow any adult content or any spam get past our comprehensive checking system and our super-rad community manager, Maddie Ruud. This makes our relationship with the search powers-to-be better, which ultimately gives your Hub a much better chance of being found on the interwebs.
3. We utilize our YieldBuild advertising optimization engine (http://www.yieldbuild.com) on HubPages, which helps our Hubbers squeeze every possible cent out of their AdSense and other ad networks each month. This helps over 100 Hubbers cash in over $100 each month, which is a pretty nice chunk of change if you ask me.
4. We have crazy traffic(8.5+ million uniques in July), which can potentially translate into crazy traffic for any Hub that is being posted.
Shai, I would love to get more of your thoughts on what we’re doing as you become more familiar with HubPages. Also, feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions that you need answered.

I’ve been at Hubpages about two months, and I love it. If you are trying to make money with Adsense, they can be a huge impact on income when you’re just starting out, and also give great traffic and make for good backlinks. The community is great and I reccomend them strongly.
Yeah, this page rocks. You hit the nail on the head here. Writing content for cash is probably the easiest ways to make cash online. Then gain some people HATE writing, I personally love it though. I write about investments and how to invest stock , you can check my page out in ur spare time. Ajay
Oh I forgot one thing, I don’t no if I missed it, but you didn’t mention adsense???
Perhaps adsnese is a very effective way to make cash online. All you need is great content for a targeted niche right?
This is great information. Another site I’ve found to generate income online is at http://www.flixya.com. It’s a great site for sharing videos, photos and blogs and making friends! Check it out?
I just want to echo what everyone else said (especially Ryan) and say that HubPages is great. It is a great place to go for content and advice, and you can also make a decent amount of money there as well.
I am doing what I can do corner the college market there, and so far – things are going well.
I’ve been a hubpage author for 10 months. Squidoo for about the same.
I was unsuccessful at Squidoo. I didn’t care for the way the lens are put together regardless of the vast amount of whistles and bells that can be added to lens. Squidoo lens seem to like a lot of extras, where on Hubpages, it’s about the writing content.
I do pretty well at hubpages. I’m not one of the $100 a month hubbers Ryan mentioned, but I’m on my way. For October I did $43 for adsense, $29 for amazon, and $8 for ebay.
As far as affiliate refferalls go, I tried promoting to get people to join and write so that I could recieve a percentage of the page impressions. The time and effort that went in to it was not worth it. I do pretty good just writing articles myself…
Hey Shai! I checked out something you wrote via twitter and then started poking around here.
I have been writing for Hubpages for about 1 1/2 years. I ahve nearly 400 articles and at this point I am hitting over 500.00 in residual affiliate money every month, with adsense being a large percentage of that. I am not as involved in the community aspect as many others because of other writing commitments and simple lack of time.
Anyway, if you are not looking for instant financial gratification and willing to work up to a significant income AND post enough to pique google’s interest is a great option.
Hubpages provide a great service both for revenue generation and SEO links. Utilising Hubpages I have managed to make many pages of my site rank for the terms I wa looking for.
Oddly, not one bit of advice or support for HubPages gives step by step instructions to integrate the affiliates. It is one thing to say, you can make money through them, another to leave instructions on how to access them. HubPages is like so many new services, no Help or getting started resources.
