Beyond Blogging: An eBook Review (+a Giveaway!)

in Blogging for Dollars

When my online friend, Deb Ng, first approached me about her ebook – Beyond Blogging: Using Your Blogging Skills for Bigger and Better Things – I was immediately intrigued. So, with a brief chat and a request – she sent me a review copy, which I didn’t get to read thoroughly until recently due to my crazy changing schedules and lifestyle.

Anyway, admittedly, my initial expectation was to read something that’s more on the “inspirational” side of blogging. Perhaps, it was due to the title “Beyond Blogging” and the subtitle “… for Bigger and Better Things.” While the book does have an inspirational feel and effect, the main message of the ebook is primarily about how to make the most out of blogging by using it in business and/or making money from blogs in various ways.

Once that message is established, the rest of the ebook reads in an easy, practical manner. It offers a few useful tips to break in to professional blogging — and how to turn your own blogs in to a profit centre. Or perhaps, use your own blogs to land other lucrative jobs.

Here’s the basic outline of the ebook (with my short commentaries):

Chapter 1: Blogging for Dollars (an overview of different ways bloggers make money with their blogs, such as affiliate marketing, etc).

Chapter 2: Blogging Skills (these are the different things bloggers do and/or use to become effective in what they do)

Chapter 3: Beyond Blogging: Where your blogging skills can take you (offers an interesting array of blogging-related jobs that you might be able to land)

Chapter 4: Where and How to find “Beyond Blogging” Jobs (includes a list of blogging job boards)

Conclusion

Anyway, if you’re interested, Deb’s book is currently for sale at US$10.

Also, Deb has kindly offered one (1) free copy of Beyond Blogging to JMMO readers. If you’re keen, just leave a comment in this post and answer the question: Why do you like blogs/blogging?

Deadline for this giveaway is on Monday, 9th March 2009. All commenters’ names will be put in to a virtual hat – and we’ll announce the lucky winner next via random draw.

Good luck!

Why do I like blogs/blogging?… well, I love meeting new people, learning about all sorts of different things, and sharing my own ideas and thoughts. Reading blogs and blogging is an ideal way of achieving all of these and more, especially when you’re a SAHM (like me) and would like to pursue these things while at home with the kids.
Oh, and earning an income while doing this makes it even better!

I like blogs because I have discovered a number of products that I wouldn’t have know about any other way. They also help me save money with their ideas and links to offers, etc.

Will always harp back to my roots of designing ads for a newspaper… FFS market yourself to your hot prospects. Don’t waste your time on trying to get as many people reading, ok they might be looking for something to do on a Sunday morning but if they ain’t going to act you are wasting your time. IMHO

I’m passionate about reading and writing. Blogs have been a fantastic source of information and stories. And blogging has been a great way for me to get into writing more. This combination has opened up a lot of opportunities to exercise these passions with an added bonus of connecting with other people who share the same. Blogs and blogging even paved a way for me to discover other interests that I can passionate about, i.e. photography, beauty. AND the best bit is it brought me a bit closer to family and my bestfriend (throw in a few members of the extended family)!

Hi, Shai! Thanks for the giveaway. I love blogs and blogging simply because I love to write and read. I really enjoy reading other people’s blogs — only quality ones, natch, not the rant-and-screech that seems to make up 95% of all blogs out there — and learning more about topics that are of interest to me from experts who know what they’re talking about. I think I have about 100+ blogs on my Google Reader, and I know that that’s a small number compared to a bunch of other blog obsessives! ;-)

As for myself, I just love to write. I’m a freelance writer, columnist and blogger and want to learn more about blogging for business.

Thanks again for the opportunity to win the book! Oh, and hey, Sasha! Good to see you here!

Cheers,
Marjorie

I like some blogs because I can get a ton of info in a hurry. I like blogging because I can build a community around a topic and make some money while I’m doing it.

I’m new at blogging. In fact, I’m so new that I don’t even have my own blog yet.

February 18, 2009, Tuesday is the exact day that I began to explore the possibility of bloggging. My objective: to make money online.

Since then I have tried to wet my feet, not really to earn immediately, but rather just to have a taste of it.

I first wrote an article at Bukisa in its Automotive Category (not really a very popular category at Bukisa) on Feb 21. It ended up at no. 1 on page 1 of Google for the keywords: best way to change car engine oil (please, see for yourself, my username there is broken_arrow).

I’ve been doing a lot of reasearch since about blogging. I’m just trying to figure out what niche i can serve on a sustainable basis before i finally come up with my own, hopefully, unique blog.

I have also guest-written in a certain blog . It’s title: The Most Important Money Lesson I learned from My Father; please check it out.

For your information, I am manic-depressive. But blogging, or at least right now, simply writing has given me a whole new perspective on looking at life. It has enabled me to tap into my deepest toughts that I never knew how to express before. More importantly blogging has given me a more positive outlook in life… it has given me hope.

by the way, the blog where i guest-wrote is Frugal Pinoy. do check it out.

thanks
