Savings: Money Musings Monday

money-musings-monday.jpg

We once talked about spending during one of our Money Musings. So, I thought, it might be a good idea to think and to talk about saving this time.

Do you have any savings plan? How do you save money? How do you find ways to save money with your online ventures?

Some of the ways I try to save money with my online ventures include:

  • Avoiding impulse buying by trying to buy most things only if there’s a sale or special running. Or perhaps, if I have a code or coupon. For example, I only ever buy books online via Amazon or Fishpond if I have a gift certificate or voucher. I’ve also been saving over $20 a month on one of my hosting plans when I decided to purchase when the hosting company was running a lifetime savings coupon.
  • Researching! I guess, this comes with the “avoid impulse buying” bit. But yes, I find that I save more money by making sure that I compare different products, plans, etc. before making any final decisions.
  • Doing things myself. Over the years, I’ve learned to do a lot of things myself so that I avoid having to do any “panic purchases”. For example, since I know how to install applications (e.g., content management systems), I don’t need to pay anyone to do it.
  • Paying other people to do jobs that I can’t do. Yes, I know this is the opposite of what I just said in my previous point. But, I do consider time as a valuable resource, so I am not averse to hiring other people to do certain tasks that I’m unable to do (or will take too long for me to complete). I believe that I end up saving time and money in this process.

I agree that one way of saving money is to compare the products you are buying from other brands. Having selection process before finally buying the product is a lot better way of criticizing stuffs and saving your money.
