When it comes to making or saving money, I find that it’s very important to be aware about wishes and wants. And, to realise which one you really need.
It’s so easy to fall in to the trap of saying things like, “Oh yes, that will be helpful for my business…” or “That’s a good thing to use for this aspect of my venture…”
But, sometimes, they’re really just wants and wishes. Not needs.
A few days ago, for example, I find myself putting a lot of things in my online shopping wish lists. The more I add items, the more I feel the need to purchase some things.
So, as I ponder upon the ever-increasing itch to spend, I started to look closer in to what I wanted these items for. Granted, I found use for all of them. But, I had to stop and consider other options. Like, in my list of “books that I want to buy for research”, I decided to peruse my local libraries instead to do my research. I also gave myself a cut-off budget for any spending that I planned to do for my online businesses/ventures. And, I reckon I saved at least a couple of hundred dollars the last few days just by reconsidering these wishes and wants – and looking for alternatives and setting workable plans.
FOR YOUR OWN MUSINGS:
- Have you had times when you just became overwhelmed with wishes and wants for your online ventures? How did you act on this?
- Do you maintain a budget for your business-related spending? How?
- What are ways that you can save money by reconsidering some items in your wishes and wants list?

Excellent post! This is one of the best blog I’ve read. Saving money is very important. We must spent for something that is worth spending. I agree in your ideas. Keep up the good post. !
Hi Shai!
Wow! It rhymes!
I think it’s really relevant to understand 2 perspectives in online buying:
1. I really need to use it & not I will find some use for it.
2. If I really need it, I will buy it no matter how out of budget the price is.
If you focus on your own realistic priorities are, decision making process & emotional detachment would become easier compared to doing it without these criteria & priorities in place. I hope it helps!
