Poll Results: Biggest Concerns About Making Money Online

When we asked: What’s your biggest concern about making money online? a few months ago, JMMO readers and vistors shared their thoughts on the subject. And, it looks like the leading concern is: Too many scams, with 52% of all votes. It’s the single most alarming thing for many people who try to make money online.

Reader BigManta said: “It’s no surprising to see that “Too Many Scams” is toward the top of the list. The “Make Money Online” industry is pretty shady compared to most other topics – and so many people have been duped, swindled, or cheated. This is one of the reasons that I believe the good, honest, guys reap a lot of the benefits because they’re upfront and have a long-term outlook.”

Another reader, Gordon Wilson, said: “I’m not surprised to see “too many scams” leading in the polls. There are some bad apples in the barrel. However, I think a lot of LEGIT options get branded as scams because the people who try them just don’t do things right or follow through. When they don’t wake up the next morning in a mansion, they start griping all over the place about how “so and so” is a scammer. There are good ways to make serious money out there. So, if you’re one of the folks who ranked “scams” #1 on your list, don’t give up!”"

The next big concern, it seems, for JMMO readers is: Not sure what kind of online business to try, with 18% of voters who are unsure about the right path to take.

Then, there are those who think that not making enough money is a major issue (14%).

And, for some folks, they think that it’s too much hard work (6% of all votes). And, there are those who may have a few concerns – but they’re already making some money online (4% of all votes).

The other concerns have an equal amount of votes: Not enough time to start an online venture (3%) and Other (please leave a comment) (3%).

Leigh said: “I don’t really see any of those as a concern. Scams are easy to avoid with a little bit of research. The others are just the reality of the situation and you just need to pick something and get on with it.”

Denise said: “The time investment is one of the biggest concerns that I see with most people. But if they are willing to take the time and put in the effort, it really is as hard as working a regular job.”

Popintervention said: “My answer is other. It’s the technological learning curve that’s messing me up. Also the internet learning curve period. For example, I just spent a night trying to figure out what the heck twitter even is. Still don’t get it.”

“Personally I think that most people are going to answer – they don’t know what kind of online business to start. There are a lot of ‘gurus’ telling them what to do… and it’s all different. They’re swimming in ideas… but which one to choose? It’s a risk to choose one because there is probably a limited amount of time and $ to allocate toward whatever project one takes on.

For myself, my biggest concern about making money online is that states are trying to tax the income we make as affiliates. It happened in Hawaii (where my Aim for Awesome, Inc. business is based) and two other states already.

If that trend continues it’s going to be a sad state of affairs for affiliate programs nationwide (USA).

Other than that Shai, I’m concerned about finding good help. Experts that can help me on projects I’m doing – and that I can trust. Quite hard to find people I trust. I’m thinking that FaceBook is going to be the answer to this. I’m considering adding not just true friends to my group of FB contacts, but other contacts – visitors at my websites… etc. Thinking that – by growing my base of ‘friends’ I’m going to eventually find everyone I need for my online projects.”

“I’m already making money so I’m not sure if this post affect me, but one of the most difficult thing was to get friends and relatives to understand that it actually was possible to make money online. It’s a difficult time where there’s few people having faith in your work. Thank to the internet it’s possible to come in contact with people who’ve got the same problem and together we pushed each other.”
