It has been over a year since JMMO has been updated. Over a year since I blogged about making money online.

Yet, in all that time, my online income hasn’t stopped. Not from this blog. And, not from my other blogs and sites that I haven’t paid much attention to for over a year. That’s the beauty of creating income streams on the web. Some of them *can* become good sources of passive income.

So, what have I been up to? What has been keeping me busy and away from here?

In July 2010, I started a new job. Still working online, but for a nonprofit organisation. Things had been hectic in the job and most of my personal projects online had taken a backseat.

I keep thinking I’ll give this blog up. Perhaps, finally sell it like I planned to many years ago. In fact, I’ve had a handful of offers for this blog, even though I haven’t updated it or approached anyone about selling.

But, somehow, I find myself unable to for one reason or another. One of these days, perhaps.

For now, I’m still here. And will try to pick up the blogging again. Let’s see how this goes.

Consider these important principles of online marketing…

1) Belief

Can you succeed without belief? It’s all to do with your mindset, and as Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you will always be right.” So, if you go into your business venture thinking that it won’t work and will fail, it invariably will, as that is your expectation. Sometimes it may be hard to maintain your belief, particularly in the early stages of your business, as you don’t always see things happening as quickly as you might have expected, and then negative thoughts may start to creep in. This is entirely natural, and it is at this point in your journey, that you need ensure that persistence is on your side!

2) Persistence

Persistence is a great leveller, as it is an attribute that anyone can employ, whatever your intellect or capability. You really don’t need to have studied at the top universities to be able to make a great success of your business. In fact, many successful entrepreneurs and businessmen started with nothing, apart from a desire to succeed, and of course, persistence. When things get tough or you’ve been knocked back, you need persistence to pull you through. Many people may well give up at this point, but if you are truly serious about succeeding, persevere, try and try again, until you get what you want or where you want to be.

3) Right Business System

However, if you have chosen to follow a business system, you need to ensure that it is one that is not only proven to work, but that it will also give you what you need, in terms of backup and training. Remember, if you are new to internet marketing, you will need training and guidance, just like you would in any new job, so this should be one of the key elements when assessing your chosen system. If the system has already worked for lots of other people, then there should be no reason as to why it shouldn’t work for you as well.

4) The List

The List – this should be your mantra! Your list is your business, never forget this. All your marketing focus should be aimed towards building your list, as without this, the process of selling online becomes much, much harder, as you are then trying to sell to new, individual customers each time. And as all the marketing gurus will tell you, it’s much harder to find a customer than it is to retain them.

5) Relationships

But, to get a customer in the first place, they need to know and trust you. People buy from people! So, you need to be building relationships with your leads, and not bombarding them with the hard sell, to earn their trust, so that in time, they will listen to you and what you have to offer. The same rule apples for your customers, build the relationship, keep in contact, as you ideally want your customers to buy from you over and over again.

Keep these five principles close to you on your journey, and success and wealth will be virtually assured for your internet marketing business.

Five Key Principles You Need To Make Money In Online Marketing

While looking for a place to store some of my files for free, I found File Factory. I thought that this might be a good solution to put my files that can be made available for download. This way, I don’t have to host the files on my server, and we won’t get the bandwidth strain.

It seems like a fairly simple service to use. Just sign-up and upload. You get 100 GB of file sharing space. That’s a lot.

There are two types of services available: Basic (Free) and Premium ($12/mo or $99/year).

The basic service has some limitations, such as download limits for your users. When you upgrade to Premium, you take off that limit. Plus, you can also take part in the File Factory Rewards programme, wherein you can get paid for the downloads that your users make. The payments vary, but for power users, they promise to pay about $10 per 1,000 downloads.

Yes, not only do you get your files hosted, you also get paid when people download the stuff that you put up. This is great if you’ve got a popular file that people enjoy downloading, such as music, ebooks, etc. That way, if you’re offering your file for free, you can still be rewarded if you host it on File Factory. Sounds like a great idea. But, I have to admit, I have only tried the basic plan for now. I’ll have to gauge the usage of my files to see how popular they’d be first and then decide whether I’ll benefit from the rewards programme or not.

One of the things that I usually get asked about making money online is: “How do I find an affiliate program to use and make money from?”

With the masses of affiliate programs and services out there, I can imagine how difficult the process might be, especially if you’re just starting out with affiliate marketing. In fact, I must admit that I don’t know everything that there is to know about this. It’s such a huge world!

But, thankfully, I have had enough success with affiliate programs to see some steady flow of cash coming from the affiliate relationships that I have. And, having put in the initial effort of finding the right ones that will work for me and my site/s, I am able to see the financial benefits.

So, I thought I’d create a series of short tips for those of you who might be interested in looking in this direction of making money online.

And yes, my first tip is: Look at Where You Shop Online!

When finding the right affiliate program, it’s always good to promote a product or service that you have already used yourself. Especially if it’s something that you liked. After all, it’s easier to say nice things about products and services that you’ve tried and enjoyed, right?

In my own attempts at using affiliate programs to make money online, I found that I’ve made the most money from those that I am able to endorse. That’s why I very rarely get in to affiliate relationships that I only heard about and never really used.

Therefore, I encourage you to have a look at the things that you enjoy buying online and the shops that you buy from. Do they have an affiliate program that you can sign up for?

Also, don’t just look at the popular affiliate programs ones like Amazon. I must say that while I continue to use Amazon, the bulk of my affiliate income comes from lesser-known sites and services.

So go ahead and watch what kind of things you buy online. Do you enjoy buying books, shoes, electronic gadgets…? See if you can sell those same items through an affiliate program. And yes, take note of those shops where you enjoy buying items from. Which shops are they? See if they run an affiliate program that you can use.

How To Start a Photography Business

Many people have preconceived notions about what it means to be a freelancer, and just as many of those preconceptions are wrong. As a beginning freelancer, you’re going to make mistakes, no matter how much research you do before starting; that’s just the way it is. However, if you know about some of the big ones and avoid them, you’ll have a much better chance of being a successful freelancer.

Freelance Pricing
There’s no way around it; pricing your own work is difficult. Starting out, there are generally two classes of freelancers: the ones who under price and the ones who overprice. First, though, you need to figure out your flat rate. Your flat rate should include expenses, such as the cost of materials. Once your expenses are totaled, add a small percentage for your profit. Keep your flat rate in mind when you bid, but also have a low price – what’s the lowest amount you’ll take for a project?

Now, potential clients will sometimes want to negotiate; thus, the reason for the low cost rate. However, when setting individual project prices, think of the overall value of a project. Would it be a great piece to add to your portfolio? Is there a possibility of more work later? Does the potential client have contacts that might be beneficial to you? It may be worth taking a little lower amount for these benefits.

Time Management
Several starting freelancers have an issue with managing their time between work, home and play. Plan and simple, it’s harder for most without the time clock. As a freelancer, you’re your own boss, and you have to crack the proverbial whip. Set specific hours that you work – and then work them.

For those that love to play, it’s hard to keep the right frame of mind to be a freelancer. Part of keeping the work atmosphere is to treat freelancing just like a job, and part of that includes NOT working in your pajamas. Before you sit down at your computer, get dressed! It doesn’t have to be in a suit or fancy clothes, but working in your nightgown or pajamas isn’t the best way to keep a “business” frame of mind.

Over Commitment
Sometimes it’s hard to say “no” and many freelancers are afraid that turning down someone will ruin them in some way. However, you know if you have too many clients or ongoing projects. Accepting another one can put enough pressure or stress on you that the quality of your deliverables goes down. Don’t let this happen to you. If you don’t have the time, be honest and tell the potential client “no”. If you’re polite, explain that you’re booked for the time being and ask if you can set up another time, chances are they may come back at a later date.

Record Keeping
It’s important to keep records, even as a part time freelancer. One, because of the almighty IRS. Two, because that’s what makes the difference between a hobby and a business. Three, because keeping records gives you the ability to keep track of how you’re doing and growing as a business. You can look back three months and see if you’re making less or more, if your expenses are costing more than you’re making, etc. Record keeping is an important part of any business, especially when you’re self-employed.

Contractual Agreements
Many freelancers don’t bother with contracts, but they’re a part of keeping records. They help establish trust with your clients, as well as give you a little bit of a legal leg to stand on should something go wrong. Don’t skip over the contract; if you agree to do something, put it in writing!
